Difficult to go so far as to say it would be a waste, Ochoa has proved on multiple tournaments to rise to the occasion and make game saving saves at the highest level. It’a hard to compare beyond that

Wasn't Oribe also a nobody at the NT level when he was chosen to play with the U23 team? That team had way more prep than our current U23 team though, and in any case just hoping that that exact formula will work again with Henry (just because) seems kind of dumb.
Besides being a good player, Oribe did the whole proceso. He played Copa America and was the overage player in the Pan American games in 2011. He only missed the tournaments he couldn't play like the qualifiers and Toulon.Martin hasn't. As for the others about goalkeepers, Mexico has always had an overage keeper except for 2004. In 96 it was Campos, 2012 it was Corona and 2016 it was Talavera. Ochoa is a solid choice and while people here talk about it just being one mistake, it was the same thing with Liborio Sanchez in Toulon and in the end it paid off big time. Malagon is coming from an injury and although he was great with Necaxa, before he wasn't even a regular and he didn't play at all there after getting injured in Guadalajara.
He was lacking in NT experience. According to wiki he only had 14 games for Mexico before 2013. Though he was coming off being a key player in Santos' championship. People forget he was shit until the last 2 games, Raul consistently looked better than him off the bench before that.

If there was a player that needed to go to the Gold Cup it was Henry Martin, to face CONCACAF countries and see if he's ever going to be useful to the NT. I don't get what he adds to the Olympic team at all. He has never played with most of them and has almost no international experience.
Problem in taking Henry Martin is the fact that I don’t he’s any better than the younger players that could start there. I would put him below Macias, Gimenez, Aguirre and even Munoz. He’s really not that good

Not feeling good about these overage players, guys. I get Memo after the shit show today but Romo is meh and Martin is a terrible selection.
Romo is a versatile player that can play as a CB or in the mid, plus he’s got physique that some of the current Sub-23 players lack I agree that they should bring in another CB, someone like Salcedo or Araujo. Hell, even Moreno wouldn’t be a bad option because the dude is a leader despite missing a step or two from when he was in his prime
Wait, so those three players are confirmed ? If they are; then that’s ********ed.... It’s an INTERNATIONAL tournament and that’s are backup ? I hope it’s not true.... Vela, Cheech and JDS (playing abroad experience is key in my book for our refuerzos) would of been good. Or if not sub out JDS for a defender like Moreno/Araujo/Salcedo or even Edson (Unless he’s picked already as U23)
The guy was pretty terrible even with Tijuana. He owes his entire career to Piojo seeing ‘something’ in him and bringing him to América. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been surprised to see him in the Ascenso.
Moreno looks like crap and super slow. No way should he be taking any young CBS spot. He’s been one of our problems in the back line these past couple games. We shouldn’t be taking older players just because of leadership. This is a U23/24 tournament after all. These older guys need to be better to be taking another young players spot. I understand Ochoa and Romo. If Martin goes that’s a waste of a spot. I think the squad is only 22 players and that would mean that only one young striker would be going to Olympics. When it comes to CBS, I just hope that Angulo isn’t starting. That would be a mistake with his lack of size especially as a CB. That could be an issue.
