Against the masters no less: Montreal Impact got to to the 2014-15 CCL final by winning their QF and SF ties via away goals, as well as this year's R16 tie.
Wasn't it Montreal that made it out of the R16 on away goals? Olimpia and Seattle ended up tied on aggregate and away goals, hence the shootout.
If Tigres wins the final, they will be the 8th different Mexican to compete at the CWC. I think only Brazil can boast more teams. And If LA wins they will be the first non Mexicans to do so since 2006. The final should be fun to watch.
Actually if Tigres wins, México would tie Brazil with 8 different teams at the CWC. And that's considering Brazil had 2 teams at the 2000 CWC. @Nico Limmat
This is an impressive run for LAFC it wasn’t that long ago no MLS team had knocked out a Mexican team and they have now knocked out three. They also didn’t have Concacaf fixing things in their favor to avoid the Mexican sides like they did for RSL a few years back. The only thing is they didn’t have to play with in Mexico with fans in the stadium which would have made this more impressive.
Yes, it's impressive they knocked three Mexican teams out, but it won't be remembered if they don't make it four. Can't wait for the final and will surely be watching it although it is at 4:00 am here. And, this is the first season I can watch it on proper tv channel instead of watching it on poor quality stream. Let's go, LAFC!
Wow. I'd forgotten how terrible the officiating in CONCACAF is. LAFC pretty clearly being CONCACAF'ed here. Pretty clear penalty not given. Long since time for the cards to come out with the elbows flying in backs and Vela having the crap beat out of him. Lots of straight scything with zero attempt to play the ball on Tigres' part. To be fair, there's a lot not getting called both ways, though. Fairly dire game, overall.
Told y'all I'd be here! (Sorry for the blurred lens) @ArnoldcommaJon @ArchBell @tutulismyname @mexicoworldcup @TheChampions @Concacaf @andrew_wiebe @MattDoyle76 pic.twitter.com/Yd8nykYEWm— Paul Calixte (@paulcalixte1) December 23, 2020
MLS is pretty clearly third tier. Funny. I used to scoff at people who didn't watch MLS in favor or European soccer, but over the last couple of years I have become that guy. Now I kind of see why that happened, mostly without my meaning to.
MLS is very clearly the second-best league in North America. Where that leaves it in the hemisphere, I'll leave to others to debate. Nothing about that will change until MLS loosens roster and salary restrictions to a huge degree. Like, spending $30 million in salary under the current rules is one thing - having the ability to spend that freely is very different. Until something changes on that front, we're all sitting here watching for an upset that has about a 15-20% chance of happening in any given series.
