Here we go! The MLS Cup playoffs aren't over yet, but the Union's season is! The stakes for Ernst, Chris, & Jim are higher than ever now that we finally have a trophy to defend!
So Creavalle and Wooten are gone. I'm neutral towards Creavalle. He fine as a cheap, bench defensive stopper type. Thank God Wooten and his gigantic hunk of cap space are gone, though! Take that money and find us a ruthless goal scorer, Ernst.
Agreed, but I'd love to know why Wooten didn't work out here. Others with similar levels of success Bundesliga 2 and below have transitioned well into MLS. Not sure if it was a lack of minutes to go around with Santos and Kacper doing so well so he never got a chance to find his legs in this league, or that he was just never going to be a good fit, but still disappointing nevertheless. Looks like he never played or even lived outside of Germany before, so maybe he just never felt quite at home here. Either way, an expensive swing and miss.
Wooten was basically insurance. He never got a chance because I don't think he had the push you get from Santos so he basically only fit in Kacper's spot. Even tho Kacper had a drought the team was still winning and K was/is cheaper and part of future plans. While we might miss on some signings I feel better knowing we haven't had a "oh shit this guy sucks and we have to pay him a shit ton of money for 2 more years" situation in a while. Unless they have some plans at the position or he can't stay healthy anymore I would love to have Creavalle back.
It semed like Wooten was not the best fit for our system. He was more of a target forward than Santos and Kacper. I feel like Santos is our most dangerous striker when healthy, Kacper is streaky and Burke is reliable. We could use a DP level striker to push the bunch especially adding Champions League games next year.
You can protect 12 players, at least 3 intl’s must be part of the 12 and HGs under 25 are exempt (obviously huge for the Union). I would protect: Bedoya Blake Burke (INTL) Ilsinho Elliott Glesnes (INTL) Martinez (INTL) Monteiro (INTL) Santos (INTL) Wagner (INTL) And then two of: Pryzbylko, Gaddis, Mbaizo (probably the first two but I could see them leaving Gaddis unprotected since it would be unlikely he’s drafted). So Mbaizo is the most likely to be drafted if anyone
I mostly agree, but keep the three on the bottom and don't protect Ilsinho. Nobody is going to take him and he'll probably threaten to retire if picked. The key to the expansion draft is figuring out the players nobody will want, anyway. In the past, this was never a problem for the Union. The roster was filled with them.
good call! Protected from selection are the following players: Alejandro Bedoya, Andre Blake, Cory Burke, Jack Elliott, Raymon Gaddis, Jakob Glesnes, Jose Martinez, Olivier Mbaizo, Jamiro Monteiro, Kacper Przybylko, Sergio Santos, and Kai Wagner. https://www.philadelphiaunion.com/p...ounce-protected-list-2020-mls-expansion-draft
So Ilshino, Bendik, Collin and Oravec are available right? Would they take a chance on Oravec without seeing him play in MLS?
True, but the expansion rules are so easy-going on teams like the Union. Plus those teams only get 5 picks now to begin with. If the 2010 Union had today's expansion draft, they would have actually had to spend money like 5 years earlier than they started to.
News from me:The Union will indeed sell centerback Mark McKenzie to Belgian club KRC Genk, multiple sources tell The Inquirer. I don’t have the financials yet, but I understand the deal is done.https://t.co/3fNxQvg62Q pic.twitter.com/lMiNwxOKVp— Jonathan Tannenwald (@thegoalkeeper) December 29, 2020

If I was a man of such means I would fashion the most eloquent spoon made of the finest silver with BAMF emblazoned on the handle in the finest gilded gold and present it to Ernst Tanner most conspicuously.
https://www.transfermarkt.com/kai-w...as-linked-to-west-ham-united/view/news/377979 Looks like they extended Kai Wagner's contract, so hopefully he'll be around at least one more season before heading back to Europe. Maybe Ernst didn't like the offers he was getting during the current transfer window, so he's waiting for the summer or next winter to sell him.
