Disappointed with the performance but I’m actually glad we’re not in Europe. You can write off Linz as ‘an Austrian team’ all you like but they score goals for fun and beat us last year so it’s hardly shock of the century Give this squad the chance to grow without the fuss of European football and let’s see what we do. I’m prepared to admit I was wrong if that is the case at the end of the season, but in footballing terms I think we’re better off without it this year
Because what benefit would it bring us this season ? We wouldn’t win the competition and all it does it create a more hectic schedule for us. We’ve made enough money from selling players to see us comfortably through the year financially, so I’d much rather be out of Europe with less fixture congestion meaning that we can concentrate on the league and targeting that extra CL spot for next season
