Sounds a bit like Minnesota United FC, the sequel. Still, the winter window affords the opportunity of a major signing. As was noted, the beat us last year, so I'm not going to get too snarky about what's happening down there. Those August matches are going to be intense.
Victor Vazquez has left Toronto for Qatar. Granted he only played 15 games last season, but when healthy Vazquez was such a vital part of what made that team tick. Not sad at all to see him leave the Eastern Conference.
Unifying the Seattle Soccer Community. @zulily is partnering with Sounders FC and @ReignFC, showcasing a deep commitment to both the sport and community.➡️ https://t.co/7QRL0X4tZq pic.twitter.com/Kth784EqJt— Seattle Sounders FC (@SoundersFC) January 17, 2019 Bahahaha!
I did not know what Zulily was until I looked it after the Seattle announcement. I am sure it is a lot of money and it is better than some (Herbalife and Advocare) but seems like a step back from XBox. I really worry after Acura how the Crew are going to top that. Sure Nationwide or Cardinal Health or L Brands are bigger companies and might give more money but the coolness factor of Acura is pretty high.
I wonder how possible it would be for us to get an even bigger sponsorship fee out of Acura if new ownership can impress them? Zulily, with its swirly logo comes off a little girly, but maybe that's not a bad thing if it appeals to the whole female demographic. And if it's a good company and is lucrative....I dont really see how fans could complain... other than to just not buy the jerseys. Would everybody be cool with L Brands slapping PINK across the front of our jerseys....if it was the largest shirt sponsorship in the league?
I didnt know who the precise entity was. What is "Acura of Columbus"? Sounds like just an individual dealership or chain or them? Wonder if we could get Honda to take over sponsorship...leave the Acura emblem on our shirts and just double, triple, quadruple...the sponsorship amount!
Where do you see “Acura of Columbus”? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ml...new-club-record-crew-sc-see-lot-room-grow?amp
Yeah I am with runningoz. I distinctly remember that it was Honda Manufacturing's Acura division. Not a group of dealerships.
Why would Barca buy? In the summer they’ll probably just sign the next big wonderkid out of South America.
Exactly, so this makes zero sense for either team. Not that the rumors couldn’t be true but rather I dont see the point. Unless LAFC got some sort of really large loan fee that made it worth financially for them but otherwise no need for this.
Yeah, this might have just squashed the Vela rumors. Unless Barca is just looking to loan him and not use him right off the bat. Which is possible. https://www.fotmob.com/news/world/1...EWS:+Boateng+completes+shock+Barcelona+switch
No, you're right. I was getting this swapped with another situation where it was a group of local dealerships but were allowed to sponsor something.
Looks like Sacramento just got its MLS expansion shit together: Sacramento Republic Secures Burkle as Lead Investor in MLS Expansion Quest [QUOTERon Burkle, the co-founder of private equity and venture capital firm Yucaipa Companies and whose net worth is $2 billion according to Forbes, has joined Sacramento Republic's ownership group, fulfilling the one glaring hole in the club's expansion application.][/QUOTE]
Most unsurprising news ever. I think the Vela "interest" was an attempt at leverage with someone else... "See we have options!" It was never going to happen. Pointless transfer for all involved.
I'm excited for this and hope it happens. The LAFC-SRFC USOC (holy four-letter acronyms Batman!) game was a ton of fun last year. I think 4x teams in CA makes sense, especially if they pursue similar density elsewhere (Detroit, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh...)
