Scored a goal today, his 4th of the season, and had an assist earlier in the same match: 1266774335676493827 is not a valid tweet id
What caught my attention in both goals is that he was near the central of the field when at least 4 of his teammates were in the attacking zone exchanging passes, then he surged forward in both occasions and collected a pass, and beat the defence by his pace to find himself in a one-on-one situation against the goalkeeper. In the first occasion he managed to score, and in the second his shot was immediately blocked, causing the defence to scramble, then he collected the ball and shot it into the net. What I liked in what I saw is Asano's involvement inside deep midfield to support the build-up and either create opportunities for his teammates and himself. Earlier in his career he only played aa a striker, and that is what made his experience in Germany uneventful, as coaches played him either wide on the wing or in attacking-midfield. He seemed that he was unable or reluctant to adapt to such roles, but now he seems to be well-accustomed to play in these other roles, even if sometimes he has to drop deep into positions usually occupied by central midfielders and wing-backs. This makes me think about the possibility of deploying him as a No.8 in the central midfield with the national team, especially with Shibasaki being so inconsistent.
