Not even close. But he bought the rights for both areas. He thinks both areas can support teams. If he thinks it I’m sure the league does as well or they at least entertain it as possible. If that’s the case and Oakland already has a team that looks to have a real base then it makes far far more business sense to have him sell the Oakland rights to them. Then try and have two teams in the same area plus the oakland roots.
They average about 3,000 per game. The orange county number seems OK. Given a stable league you could build on that.
San Diego 1904 is back on ticket master. However they’ve reduced the areas in the stadium they’re selling tickets to the far sideline and west end line. They’ve ended sales on the east side completely. And they’ve taken out whole swaths of seats in the areas they are selling (generally where people sat during Game 1) to no doubt give away and/or sell on their own site directly.
Evidently Miami FC is currently playing in a small college stadium and will return to Riccardo Silva Stadium in the spring.
Remember two years ago, Miami was second in the NASL attendance, behind the Indy Eleven. To be fair, they had professional players on that squad and were running away with the spring and fall season before losing to the Cosmos via everyone's favorite means to end a game; penalty kicks. Next summer, Inter Miami will likely play their first regular season match in Ft. Lauderdale sometime in June or July and will most likely wreck what's left of them.
Yeah Miami and San Diego both have that problem (ie bigger better run team beginning shortly). And arguably Stumptown, Atlanta, LA Force and Cal Utd all have that problem now. Only team that really has its own niche that thus far hasn’t been impinged on is Oakland. They’re just far enough and separately identity enough due to the Balkanized nature of the SF Bay Area to survive. Even with the USL East Bay team coming since that team is too far removed from Oakland.
Well SD 1904 FC is finally doing a little advertising which is long overdue... This just came up on my Facebook feed. Highlights are heavily discounted tickets, empty stadium ambiance, and European style soccer (whatever that means)...
Looks like about 2800 views. Down a couple hundred from the opener. Despite the decline both in person and online, neither was as bad as I anticipated. It’s actually got me more excited for the USL San Diego’s A team in March. If a fly by night B side in a bad situation can garner this much interest, what can a MLS stepping stone team with significantly more run up and a much better situation achieve?
Still no word on 1904 FC attendance against the Roots. As for their next home game v LA Force on Nov 2, they’ve severely cut down on the number of available sections even more. The orange sections in the below map aren’t available on Ticketmaster anymore. And that’s after they removed Sections 0, 1 and 2, 9 to 24 and 50 to 61 for the Roots game. That’s an awful lot of grey.
