Agreed! This will be very entertaining to follow this season! Early surprises have to be Winterthur and Schaffhausen to the good.... Aarau to the bad!
The curse of @Arrows is real. First Aarau is off to a very poor start. Then he says something good about Schaffhauen and they lose 2-1 today to Chiasso!
The ironic thing about that is that they wouldn't be promoted to the Super League if they did manage to win because of a lack of physical seats in their stadium and their poor finances
10 Aug Chiasso - Schaffhausen 2-1 11 Aug Wil - Aarau 2-0 With the win Wil go 2nd! Winterthur - Kriens 1-1 LS - RJ 1-0 - Late goal lifts LS to the top of the table. 12 Aug Vaduz - Servette 1-0 LS 10 Wil 9 Winterthur 7 Servette 6 They have only given up 3 goals all season and have two losses. RJ 6 Schaffhausen 6 Vaduz 6 Kriens 5 Chiasso 3 Have conceded 12 goals this season in 4 matches! Aarau 0 Only 1 goal all season so far.
Goalscoring leaders: 4 - Miguel Castroman - Schaffhausen 3 - Nico Siegrist - Kriens 3 - Aldn Turkes - RJ 2 -11 players with 2 goals Assist Leaders: 3 - Karim Barry - Schaffhausen 3 - Sergio Cortelezzi - Wil 3 - Luca Radice - Winterthur 2 - Eight players with 2 assists Attendance: Winterthur (2) 3,500 Aarau (2) 3,300 LS (3) 1,955 RJ (2) 1,540 Vaduz (2) 1,499 Kriens (1) 1,300 Wil (3) 908 Schaffhausen (2) 908 Chiasso (3) 547 Servette (0) --- Winterthur and Aarau are great numbers so far this season. Wil and Schaffhausen is doing very poorly at the gate despite their success on the field. My bold prediction, Chiasso will average less that 400 per match.
They still lack the necessary funds to be able to climb up, and then renting out kybunpark for 18+ matches a season will cost them a fortune.
So playing devils advocate here... what's the point then? Hey we won the title but we aren't going anywhere! I wonder if Wil plans on ever upgrading their stadium?
The point is to keep moving forward and be a Challenge League team, and if they win the title, then great. Wil doesn't own their stadium. They are only a tenant. They want to have the stadium upgraded, but the town refuses to pay for it since they paid for the upgrades to its current state in 2013.
They do not even average 1k in their stadium which is not far from town at all. I do not think that they would have the finances to be successful. At the RSL. I think what we forget is that the league has a championship, not just promotion.
So what I'm getting here is that teams like Wil are happy to be where they are? Not only because they can't afford to move up but don't wish to do so. I really hope Aarau gets their act together with the new stadium would love to see them back in the RSL.
Only 3 Challenge League teams received a Class II license this year, meaning they were eligible for the Super League: Lausanne, Servette, and Vaduz. That means that even before the season started, 7 teams had no hope of promotion. In all of those cases, it's because those 7 clubs can't afford to move up or they simply don't have the resources to do so. Just because they can't get promoted doesn't mean they don't have an incentive to win. If Wil wins the Challenge League, it will mean a tremendous amount to their fans and town.
Say for arguments sake Servette finishes first and Aarau finishes 2nd... the promotion/relegation game between 9 in the RSL and 2 in BCL would not be played?
That depends on if Aarau can meet the requirements by that time to earn a Class II license to get into the Super League. If they can't, then that spot will go to the next placed team who qualifies for a Class II.
I am actually moving to Aarau and was there today speaking to a big fan of FC Aarau. We spoke about the club and stadium plans/future: They are definitely pushing for a new stadium (and have for years) and the vote on the new stadium proposal is next year. However, if anyone has a problem with a proposed new stadium, renovation, etc., they can then complain and take it up with the city, who has to take it into consideration. This happened a few years ago with FC Aarau. One person complained, a few others followed, then all the plans had to be reevaluated at the city level. This process took a couple years (as most government evaluations seem to do) and the plans were then accepted again. However, the price point was raised and it was too much for the club and city, thereby putting the subject to bed... As I mentioned, the new proposal will be voted on next year. They want to add a train stop for the new stadium as well...costing more money. So this season is a big one for the club. They need to perform well to help the proposal pass....that is yet to be seen.
Welcome to the board Jessy He in, we look forward to your input. Here, I think that you will find us a friendly group.
Just when things looked like they could not get worse for Aarau this happens. In their 2-1 win over Fc Amriswil in the Swiss Cup, Marco Schneuwly tor a ligament and will be out for 3 months. Poor @Arrows
24 Aug Serette - Winterthur - This should be a good match, and Servette is finally playing at home after 5 matches to start the season away. 25 Aug Schaffhausen - LS Aarau - Chiasso - Great chance for Aarau to get some points. 26 Aug Kriens - Wil RJ-Vaduz
