The groups and schedules are out: http://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017/...es-complete-groups-and-schedule-2017-gold-cup We are in with French Guiana, Costa Rica, and, of course, Honduras. We play FG first, CR second, and, of course in the final group game that will likely decide whether we advance, Honduras. I'm guessing this is the time we take Honduras down. (That said, I'd still rather we had been drawn with someone else even if only for the sake of variety.)
A bit of a shame that none of our games are reasonably close to the border, but then again, the only city on the list that was close was Cleveland. Still, we can hopefully get a decent road contingent in the first match since it's still a reasonable distance from both Toronto and Montreal. Annoyed that we have to face Honduras yet again, though I'd still rather face them than Panama. Let's hope we can improve on 2015's campaign, and score 1 goal...
We're not in the same pot as the US and Mexico. Costa Rica is the third in that pot, the reason being that they are the three highest ranked teams in CONCACAF. We've got an easier group that last time. In 2015 we had two teams to compete with for second in the group, this time we really only have Honduras to battle for that spot (Cinderella stories aside that is).
I'll use this post as the tournament summary post. Will update as we go along. Interesting fact: the last two match dates are the same as for 2015, and we played in Houston on 11 Jul that year as well.
I kinda agree on this, could be good for us. Thoughts? http://www.sportingnews.com/soccer/...cup-it-wouldnt-hurt/clj8lrsb4v881mpc4dju9e4b1
I totally agree (and am on record elsewhere on this forum as being so ). One way would be instead of filling one spot with a playoff between the fifth place Central American and Caribbean teams, fill two final spots based on a three team round robin between those two teams and the third ranked North American team (which barring any real bizarre circumstances, will be us). Of course, the problem with this is that we won't be facing teams of any real strength, so even though they'd be competitive matches they still probably wouldn't go far toward the goal of what's stated in the article.

Too bad we couldn`t get Tabla for this tournament. Still hoping Bryan Cristante (Serie A Atalanta) will commit to Canada. That would elevate the quality of the club by a lot
No Atiba though. I really wanted to see him and Bernier at midfield at the same time in a tournament.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/mls...arin-arrested-drunk-driving-florida-1.4162090 This was a few days ago, but just reposting in case anyone hasnt seen it. I think it's safe to assume he won't be at the Gold Cup and if he is I'll be more than disappointed in the CSA. DUI's are a big deal, I hope he's out from all competitions until MLS clears him to play and Larin has, hopefully, had some time to truly reflect on his actions and how lucky he is to not be in bigger trouble
Confirmation here that Larin won't be in the Gold Cup roster. https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...wn-usas-ike-opara-canadas-raheem-edwards-rise Anyone know how long the MLS process takes?
The only good news there is that he hasn't been a key player for us, despite his great performance in MLS. Would have been great for him to get some competitive experience in this tournament, but he's young and there'll be more opportunity down the road
And now Larin is cleared for MLS play again: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2017...arin-cleared-return-following-sabh-assessment I wonder if this will affect Canada's Gold Cup decision?
I think it's too late for the 23-man roster, but if Canada makes it beyond group stage (which is doubtful) I suppose he could join up at that time since he was on the 40 man provisional roster.
I wouldn't say that it's doubtful that we'll make it past the group stage. A win over French Guiana will likely be enough, and a draw or better against Honduras is a distinct possibility. We're only carrying two forwards on the 23-man squad. I'm wondering if that was intentional for Larin's sake.

Cavallini is better in my opinion. He plays in a tougher league that produced Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez and he scores at that level. He's only 24. I need a break from Larin missing all those open nets for Canada.
A couple of interesting omissions: Edgar and Akindele Any idea why Hutch is not playing? Has he retired from the CMNT?
