2016 Regular Season Player Movement and Rumors

He's been bad for a couple years now. 3 goals in his last 51 games overall. 4 goals in his last 58 MLS games. I wouldn't even sign him for the minimum. Rather just role with Le Toux or Pontius if Sapong/Herbers can't carry the load.

 

He's buried behind Giovinco and Altidore, so not surprising. I'd take a flyer on him.

Dan Gargan got waived today too. Always liked him.

 

Herc will be 34 in April. Doesn't look like an improvement to our roster on the field, although having a savvy vet around might be good for Sapong and Herbers. I'd say no thanks unless we can grab him for a song.

Out of curiosity:

If the Union's offseason consisted of acquiring Tim Howard and Jermaine Jones, plus some Nando-level foreign striker nobody ever heard of, what would the attitude on here be? Are we just really negative?

 

Considering that one of our biggest offseason moves was upgrading Sak with ES and given our history with GKs (especially ones that stood on their heads during the recent little tournament in Brazil), I don't think it would be received very well by the more knowledgeable fans that make up this board as it would be viewed as a cheap ploy to sell tickets and not as a long-term investment in the club which we all know is needed. This is not meant as disrespect to Howard and Jones who are well respected members of the USMNT, but rather as frustration with the former regime.

 

I have zero desire for either of those players. I would much rather have Alberg and Ilsinho.

 

I would have been irate. We didn't need a goal keeper, especially at $2m. Jones is a piece of garbage and not worth anything north of $600k due to his suspension, injuries, and shit attitude. And a throw in piece striker would be nice but this combo was ruined before it started.

 

I would have rather signed Howard Jones

If they just swapped Edu for Jermaine Jones................that I could be happy with. Jones is a stud. Say what you will about his ego, but the Revs were much tougher to beat with him then they were without him. Plus he would provide more flexibility in regards to formations as he can play the DM role by himself or with Nogs next to him.

As for Howard............I love Timmay, but no thanks. Too expensive and he's on the downside. Blake is going to steal this team results this season.
