I saw the first half last night. I was surprised to see Diosa on defense, he did okay, wasn't challanged much. Caceres at CB and the goalie on trial looked good as well, I don't think the Ventura Fusion posed much of an offensive threat to be honest. As expected Cosmos controlled the tempo and had a good amount of chances that they just couldn't put away. Fernandez impressed me with his ability to operate in tight spaces and quick thinking, so did Lucky. I'm looking forward towards the game against Sacramanto, that should be more of a gauge to see how ready the team is.
You are not the only one, game is SOLD OUT http://www.sacrepublicfc.com/news/2015/02/26/republic-cosmos-sold-out
Cosmos won 3-1, seems like the scoring came after Republic made a bunch of substitutions. I don't know what the starting lineup was, I'm guessing in front of 20 k people Gio sent out his prospective starters. It'll be interesting to see who was out there. Roversio is still out so we do need some help back there, from what I read a few days ago all the trylists are offensive players and a goalie. IMO we need a guy that could play both CB and on the flanks, but it seems like we're not even looking.
Really too bad we couldn't keep Ockford for another season on loan...Ockford has a good future with the Sounders. Perhaps the Cosmos intend to play defense with a aggressive offense...
It would have been good to keep Ockford. We have Roversio, Mendes, and Caceres at CB, Freeman and Gorskie have also played there. I don't think that they're going in thinking offense is the best defense, but One more CB on the roster would be nice, specially since Roversio is injury prone (since last season)and Mendes is up there in age.
RECAP | FAS 1, Cosmos 0 The New York Cosmos fell to Salvadorian side C.D. FAS, 1-0, on Saturday, March 14 during a preseason friendly in front of over 25,000 spectators at the Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador, El Salvador. “I think it was as difficult as we expected it to be,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said after the match. “It was a difficult environment because there were a lot of people cheering for the home team.” http://www.nasl.com/article/uuid/1efabiagf4vkt1rpfb8upeonjo/recap--cd-fas-1-cosmos-0
Some special visitors at first home game. http://bigapplesoccer.com/teams/cosmos2.php?article_id=40523
I looked at the map online about a week ago and it appears as though a decent number have moved since then. One whole side of the stadium is not available, i'm not sure if that's because they are sold out or because they are reserved for potential season ticket/group sales.
I took a look at the map as well, it seems the side that still has plenty of seats left is the one that gets most of the "camera action" during the transmission of games. Hopefully they get more butts in seats otherwise it'll look like a smaller crowd than it really is.
I just checked for matches later in the season and they also have the non-tv side of the stadium as unavailable. That is a bunch of seats so I doubt they sold that many season tickets. My assumption is that they have those seats reserved for season sales and may release some later in the day. If not, that looks like 5k+ already sold for the season, which would be great but probably not the case.
I'd expect the home opener to be close to a sellout but the real interesting thing to see will be if they can maintain a stronger average for the rest of the games and 2015 split seasons than the approximately 4900 average in 2014.
http://northernpitch.com/articles.h...soccer/northern-pitch-spring-predictions-r136 prediction for the Cosmos in 1st place...
I am unsure the defense is sufficient to hold up against San Antonio and Minnesota, but we should do much much better than the Fall. First place is realistic.
