Well, that happened. First knockout win since 2007. U.S. now has a chance to win two knockout matches in a U20 WC for the first time ever.

 

People who thought Colombia was physical... ...Serbia is going to be way more physical.
However we should have more possession against them.

Now THAT was a team showing some fight. Made it worth it to stay up until 5:30am.

Ramos made Acosta captain in quali's. For some reason Acosta is held in very high esteem in MLS as well. You will see Requejo against Servia and u decide.

CCV was immense. Miazga was very good. Payne solid, Acosta clearly playing out of position. Delgado was himself. Hyndman anonymous for much of the game but battled to win the ball leading to the goal. Zelalem drifted in and out, but was our only real threat going forward in the first half and kept going in the second; showed more bite this game. Allen ran hard, made a few good plays but nothing more. Arriola was tireless and played alright; not good enough at retaining the ball while dribbling. Rubin took his only chance like a pro and worked his butt off. Steffen might be MoM - really stepped up when needed. Phew. What a game.

Zelalem played some great balls that would have been entirely different if BJIV were on the end instead of Allen.

Colombia was dirty. Pretty disgusting display by them.

The ref did us no favors.

 

Ive been impressed with Miagza too. Hes pretty commanding in the air. CCV is a brick shit house.

 

This was the most skillful performance I've seen by a US U20 or higher team in a knockout round match. While the U20s have fielded some sweet passing teams in the past, what really separated this year's group was the quality of the d-mid and backline; those guys were championship caliber.

Too bad Maki Tall had gotten injured. Imo, we'd have gotten at least one more goal with him in there.

 

In my neck of the woods the voicing is the same. You are right of course but it's not worth getting irritated over.
