Awesome. Hope to see you there. Also hope the Fire and Red Stars can work out a couple doubleheaders at Toyota Park this season.
Maybe they can host seminars for Boston or something. One of the things that prevent me from fully enjoying the draft process is knowing that all these kids won't get signed. I'm seriously hoping the league extend the roster size to maybe 23. It's one thing to call up amatuers when players are away for 3-4 days but it's completely different when 7/20 players will be gone for half the season. Given the injury situation, a team can't possibly survive on 13 first team players.
I know this isn't about soccer, but today Chicagoans from both northside and southside as well as fans around the country mourn the passing of one of our country's greatest sports legends and great human beings. Rest in peace Mr. Cub - Ernie Banks. "Let's play two"
As someone who used to sneak his transistor radio into bed to listen to the Phillies playing the Cubs, I both rep and salute this post.
Thanks cpthomas. I also remember my transistor radio back when was a little kid. I used to listen to Vince Lloyd and Lou Boudreau on WGN back in the 60's doing Cubs games and Jack Brickhouse on TV. I was a baseball fannadict as a kid growing up in Gary, IN. Couldn't get enough of baseball. Back then as kids growing up in the midwest, you would gather the neighborhood kids and go play baseball in the alley. All day long. I'm sure it was similar on the east coast. I remember when the Phillies had Cookie Rojas, Johny Callison, Richie Allen (who later came to the White Sox with his huge bat), then in the 70's Mike Schmidt and Steve Carlton. Those were our young innocent days as kids. And when one of your childhood heroes passes away it's natural and often healthy to reflect upon those days. Sometimes it puts things into perspective.
Rory Dames on the Red Stars: http://chicagoredstars.com/dames-we-can-play-with-anybody-in-the-league/
4 Home games at home, could be a great start for the season, or a terrible start. http://chicagoredstars.com/nwsl-announces-complete-2015-regular-season-schedule/ May 9th is the double header with the Fire.
I love the Doubleheader with the Fire however... I'm disappointed that NONE of the USWNT players will be there. Not for the Red Stars, not for Boston Breakers. The USWNT plays Ireland on May 10th. I was hoping this year we could have done a double header with Portland or Seattle with ALL players present so as to showcase the league to Chicago fans especially those that go to Fire games.
Anyone think that the Wednesday august 12th game at 1:00pm odd? I wonder how many people will make an afternoon game during the week. I'm retired so I will be there. Unfortunately I will miss 2 games because they fall on concert dates. I'm taking my 4 grandnieces to soldier field to see taylor swift and one direction.
I don't think it is odd. Schools are still out by than so maybe the Redstars requested that start time as they may want to make it a special theme event
From what I can tell, families that take their kids to these games are usually ones in which 1 parent work and the other stays home. What you will also see is that there might be a group of kids with one adult meaning maybe their parents came together and decided that the person who wasn't working will attend. All I'm saying is that given how strange this fixture sounds, I think it is more likely something that was requested by the red stars. For NWSL, there is absolutely no reason why they will randomly schedule a mid week game at 2 pm
The Cubs have millions of fans and 30,000 season ticket holders and public transportation. We will see what the red stars draw that afternoon.
And the weird thing is that it's not against a team that would draw that well. No offense to SkyBlue, but they just don't have the same drawing power as Portland or Seattle or even WNY.
From Red Stars twitter: Chicago Red Stars@ChicagoRedStars · 11h11 hours ago Great tryouts callbacks today => 10 invited into camp (2 GKs)! Special guest appearance by one @jackie_santa #NWSL Two Goalkeepers, hmmm...
That makes sense. Chicago is going to need a third option at keeper since LeBlanc is going to miss a large chunk of the season.

Sad to see her retire. Kecia was one of my favorite players going back to her days at Notre Dame. Just a great kid with a constant beautiful smile. Very impressed with her honesty: http://chicagolandsoccernews.com/teams/redstars2.php?article_id=15324
Finally someone came out and said it. I suspect most of the other younger players that are retiring now are doing for the same reason which in and of itself doesn't mean the league have an issue. It just means these guys have better options outside of soccer right now and there's not much the league can do about that.
