Want some fun random trivia? (Brought to you by random Wikipedia editing!) The Red Stars have the second-best home undefeated streak in the league over the course of last season (6 games). And the best part? The streak is active - so if Chicago doesn't lose in its first five home games of 2014, they'll tie the current-best home undefeated streak (11 games, WNY).
Dames said addition to our team. He didn't specify player. So it may be a coaching staff member. Anyway any news is welcome in this slow developing off season.
CRS just tweeted that it is player news and will be announced at 1pm CT. Also, Boston tweeted earlier they have news as well at the exact same time. US allocation perhaps?
Not necessarily a trade because Boston is owed an allocated player since Mitts retired before the season.
Seriously, I would think Sermanni and NWSL doesnt come out with the subsidized players list until after the December camp. I mean why bring LePeilbet and A-Rod into that camp if uve already decided if they r subsidized?
If it is a trade maybe Leslie Osborne wants to return to Boston now that there is new coach. Might also explain why they moved Nogueira.
Trade from whom? Press isn't with any NWSL team at the moment. It's already been said that Chicago won't be getting a player "from" Seattle, unless you count the player USSF is going to just give Chicago as the player they would have used to replace Winters in the allocation pool.
I meant as a guess that the announcement may be: 1. Trade with Boston? 2. Press allocation to Chicago? 3. Lindsay Tarpley signing? That's my guesses. Of course it will end up being something totally off the wall and much less dramatic.
Press is possible because she is a no doubt subsidized player...the other no doubt is prolly Engen. I wouldnt go farther than that on the list until after the December camp as it is a numbers game. After that Averbuch and Klingenberg r very likely but why commit to one now and have something unfortunate happen before January?
That's what I meant. Given that Boston is also owed an allocated player, maybe the USSF is settling its debt this afternoon. Will be interesting to see if WNY Flash haven similar tweet about player announcement.
Yep. Those who guessed a trade were correct. http://chicagoredstars.com/red-stars-acquire-rights-to-casey-short-from-boston-breakers/
Interesting to hear that Taylor Vancil just tweeted about having an FSU teammate on the team with her. I wonder, does that mean Chicago is not the team Angerer is due to come to? I have a hard time believing an NWSL team would roster three GKs, and I can't see the Red Stars siphoning off McLeod. Unless Vancil's going to get bad news soon... =-/
I have no comments one way or another on Casey Short. Saw her play against Notre Dame a few years back and she was an impressive player. However, if we are going to bring someone "back home", bring Brittany Bock back home. Also, they could have used the 11th pick to pick Mandy Laddish. But it is what it is. Let's hope it works out. It's fine that the Red Stars are choosing "home-town" players and/or those that want to play for Rory. And the Red Stars will have a solid team again. However...IMO, the Red Stars need a BIG NAME signing for attendance sake. You can't try to sell tickets on other teams "stars" forever.
The whole trade is odd but I find most NWSL trades odd. Chicago trades for a player coming off an injury sight unseen. Boston, the other hand trades the #5 pick in the draft to basically replace the #12 pick that they bungled away to WNY.
Good trade, makes sense for both teams. Having picks 2 and 3 Chicago could afford to trade their 2nd round pick (which I expected them to do), they get a player in return with a lot of potential if she can stay healthy. She'll have her best friend their to help with training and get healthy again. Boston jumps back into the second round after that bad trade with WNY.
