    I think this will be a good hire. He's put in his dues at State and Furman so I suspect he's ready.

    He also played in the state for Milwaukee Wave and married a Wisconsin girl so he has some ties to the area which should help in recruiting.

    And, for those that care about such trivia, Popik is the 18th current D-I men's head coach who played in at least one MLS regular season game.

    Off the top of my head, the ones I can think of were all gks, defenders, or d-mids (Popik, Heaney, Payne, Kelderman, Clark, Gelnovatch, Yeagley, Porter). Is that the general trend?

    Yes. The only forwards, at least as pros, were Echeverry and Kerr, who was actually pretty accomplished (once scored a hat-trick for Millwall).
