I'm upset the Yankees didn't pick up either Scott Kasmir or Daisuke Matsuzaka. They would have been worth taking a chance on having comebacks. Instead, the Indians signed them both to minor league contracts.

Spring Training camp officially opens tomorrow!

Granderson will supposedly miss only 10 weeks. I'll bet more.

I'm still not overly worried about the team and its predicted demise (a la 1965) by many in the press because of its age, suspect starting pitching, and lack of lineup power. Frankly, what makes all of this most interesting is that Joe Girardi will actually have to manage his ass off. Last year, he went into late-Torre mode, sitting back and waiting for someone to hit a 5-run homer. It's time to bring some little baseball to the Bronx. Cashman has derided this idea, saying they were the Bronx Bombers and not the Bronx Bunters. But you know what Cash? -- remember the old saw about life handing you lemons so you make lemonade? Wake up and embrace it! Singles, stolen bases and -- yes! -- bunts! Billy Martin would know what to do with this team. He'd be drooling over the prospect of managing the hell out of this bunch.

And set Eduardo Nunez free to go wild at the plate. Put him out there. He's ready!!!

Mark Teixeira strained his right wrist while hitting off a tee and has pulled out of the so-called World Baseball Classic. Fine with me.

David Phelps, one of my faves, is pitching splendidly with another strong outing yesterday. He's gone 9 innings total, giving up 7 hits and 1 run. Hughes gets the ink but Phelps is the guy to keep an eye on.

So, an MRI of Tex's wrist showed a strained ECU tendon in the right wrist. He's shut down for 4 weeks of complete rest and will miss 8-10 weeks. He'll probably not be back until June.

All thanks to his participation in the phony World Baseball Classic. Thanks a lot, Joe Torre.

So Brian Cashman thinks the Yankees should be so desperate as to call up Chipper Jones and find out if his interested in coming out of retirement? Did Cash land on his head after jumping out of that plane?

The Texas Rangers are reportedly interested in Joba. Don't answer the phone. Keep him here.

So, Mark Teixeira is more seriously hurt than previously believed. He doesn't have a strained tendon, but a partially torn tendon sheath. The sheath covers the tendon and keeps it in place. According to Brian Cashman, there's a 30% chance he'll have to get surgery and miss the season. Well, the WBC has certainly proven its worthlessness this spring.

This could be a good pickup for the Yanks...

The Yankees cut Matt Diaz, so he's gone from outfield mix.

The Yanks have signed Chien-Ming Wang to a minor league deal. He'll begin the season at Triple-A. He pitched for Taiwan in the World Baseball Classic and threw 12 shutout innings in starts against Australia and Japan.

    Welcome back!

The Vernon Wells dead is finally done. The Yankees have sent minor league outfielder Exircado Cayones and minor league lefty Kramer Sneed to the Angels. The Angels will shell out $28.5 million of the $42 million left on Wells’ contract. The Yanks will pay Wells $11.5 million this season and $2 million next season.

Additionally, the Yanks have signed first baseman Lyle Overby to a minor league contract after he was released by the Red Sox.

Derek Jeter will begin the season on the DL. He is scheduled to come off on April 6.

Juan Rivera was cut so Lyle Overbay will be holding down first until Teixeira's return.
