Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] I was at the game with some friends, and it was insanely superb. Chumiento really stood out as a talented player, needs to work on his fitness though. Harris( I think he's the #9) has good movement and holdup play, but needs to work on his foot speed and finishing, he ruined 2 1V1's which were absolutly stonewall goals, the first of which he had the perfect angle to just slide it in but took an extra touch which turned out to be heavy. Demerit....great captain, love his 100% effort and anticipation. Some of the chants were hilarious, I'm fearful of posting stuff the entire section I was in was screaming...the most tame of which was massive minutes on end shouting to the Toronto FC group of fans "you can shove the CN tower up your assssssssssssss, you can shove the CN tower up your asssssssssssss, you can shove the CN tower you can shove the CN tower you can shove the CN tower up your asssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss" in a melodic chorus Best bit though was half the stadium on one side screaming "WHITE" and our side screaming "CAPS" for a good 5 minutes as it caught on with the people who didn't really follow Vancouver or soccer in general...we even started a few of those chants walking on opposing sides of the street walking up hastings after the game with other fans Even at metrotown where walking into silvercity to see Battle: LA some fans were belting chants from the match out On another note, my cousins little kids got to escort the players out on the field before the anthems and such, and they were completly awed by the experience, it really made a impact on them. Classy move by the club to let little kids do that(I know its tradition for most soccer teams, but it's good to see us using it!) BEST COMMENT OF THE MATCH BY A FAN= Blonde teenaged girl sitting beside me leaning over to her friend and saying: ".......and I thought soccer was boring!" hahahah Great opener, I think i may have the one remaining white poncho from the opening match left

While the outcome was painful for those of us in Red it was great to see your team in the league and your fans really having a super time. Could not have been a better openner for you and from your perspective. Good luck going forward. For us it might turn out to be a long season but I know there will be high lights and we will eventually over turn the rot caused by the previous leadership team. Cheers

The pub was off the chain. the march to the park was brilliant! the atmosphere was spectacular and the Caps played well and TFC did not... I am not quite sure what to think quite yet... I don't know if we were that good or if TFC was that bad... anyhow, looking forward to the match in HD on the Tele this weekend and at Tempire again April 2!

Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] great team great atmosphere and great rivalries between the two teams. i sat under the toronto fc supporters area and there were quite a lot of taunts in between the two groups of fans. whitecaps pride: alot of yellow cards during the match: when the whitecaps scored, we immediately turned to the toronto fans and ask them: "who are ya? who are ya?" lemme know if this board wants more photos, dun wanna flood it without the mods' permission.

The team looks pretty solid for your first ever season and the all white kits look real slick. Hassli is gonna be tough for any team cuz of his size, strength, skill and speed. Congrats again! The Empire, its surroundings and the atmosphere looked great on tv. Looked like a really fun to place to be...and the mountains in the background looked breathtaking. A great advert for Vancouver.

Hopefuly it was only for the opener and it wont be a tradition.
Re: Gameday March 19, 2011: Whitecaps vs. Toronto FC [R] Not sure what you're talking about Sheva, but I didn't hear too many noises at the game that made me cringe like the vuvuzelas did during the WC. The caps gave out drums to the season ticket holders which I thought were used appropriately... It was loud in Empire, but not in an annoying noisy way like the Vuvuzela's gave off.. Overall I thought the fans did a great job with the atmosphere. While there can be improvement with the singing and chanting in unison, I really enjoyed the barrage of ponchos after the goals.. One fan in a section next to mine tossed a poncho at Theibert while he was attempting to take a corner kick, and he shook his head at us, and the section let the fan know how we felt, but other then that... it was awesome!
