Grenada over Costa Rica I've been saying it for months so I can't wait for Costa Rica to beat them by 6 goals
Tough matchups in bold, blowouts in italics. I would predict the US to blow out Barbados, but they had a very hard time with Grenada in the past. We(unfortunately) will probably have a bit of a rough time with them too, considering they have a good number of players in England and elsewhere.
Wow, the field is in horrible condition. This could really help Puerto Rico since Honduras can't attack at full speed.
Wow, the rain is really screwing up Suazo. Every time he makes a run for the ball, he always ends up slipping to the ground.
Perhaps you should consider creating an actual game thread and leave this one for general discussion. It's only a suggestion, don't shoot the messenger.
Why Is the second leg match between Canada and St. Vincent/Grenadines going to be played In Montreal instead of Toronto - BMO Field?
The true tossups in this stage, I think, will be Suriname vs. Guyana, El Salvador vs. Panama, and Canada vs. St. Vincent & the Grenadines. The other 9 legs should go to the teams everyone thinks ought to win them (USA, Mexico, T & T, Guatemala, Jamaica, Honduras, Cuba, Haiti, Costa Rica). Based on recent history, you'd think Panama would have the edge on El Salvador, but historically over time, El Salvador have had more success than the Canaleros. SVG have performed as well or better than Canada in the past 3 WCQ cycles. Guyana has a nice run going over the past two years while Suriname are looking to recapture some semblance of success that has evaded them over the past 30 years. Good luck to our CONCACAF final 24!
Well, it's not like St. Vincent will be a good draw anyways. For the group stages, I'm expecting them to play Mexico in Toronto, Jamaica in Edmonton and Honduras in Montreal. Jut a guess thought.
I heard that the CSA, in all their wisdom, wants to play the Mexico game in Montreal, the Jamaica game in Toronto and the Honduras game in Edmonton. But that the date of the Honduras game is so close to an Eskies home date that they may have to play the Honduras game in Montreal too. I'd rather see the Jamaica game in Edmonton, the Mexico game in Montreal and the Honduras game in Toronto. Or perhaps switch the locations of the Jamaica and Mexico games.
Congrats, after years of reading BS and never having the motivation to register, you instilled this motivation in me, believe me Ive been very tempted to put in my 2 cents MANY times. I just have to say that in the past 3 WCQ cycles, St VAG has gone 0-6 in both 1998 and 2002, while Canada made the hex in 1998 and finished 3rd in their group in 2002. You could say technically that St VAG finished better than Canada in the 2006 cycle but they only beat St Kitts twice while Canada got 5 points in their group which had Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica. You should direct your 2nd round attention to the pairing of Haiti and Netherlands Antilles moreso than Canada and St VAG if your looking for an upset.
Fair enough Red&White! Glad I was able to get your fingers going on the keyboard--welcome to the party !! As soon as I hit the 'Submit Reply' button, I immediately had reservations about my musings on the Canada-SVG legs. I'm not entirely sold on the prospect that Haiti will flame out against Netherlands Antilles. Canada should win against SVG, but over the years, the Vincy Heat have been surprise semifinalists. At this point, the only certain surprise will be the Guyana-Suriname series winner, but that winner's chances of advancing to the final hex will be difficult, to say the least.
Yea, I knew were you were going with it Yea, like devioustrevor said, there's everything in Canada. But if Canada was to play an important match in Toronto, they'd be wise to avoid a West Indian team, especially Jamaica. During my time in Toronto, I didn't encounter a huge collection of Mexicans, there was a few here and there, but not a great amount. Actually didn't really note a huge Hispanic population, but I could be wrong. Toronto really doesn't provide that great of a home-field advantage, as it's so multi-cultural. Games against Jamaica, Italy, or an AFC opposition would make BMO a neutral ground. I agree with devious...Honduras would be the optimal choice for Toronto...
Why are is it Suriname vs. Guyana and Panama vs. El Salvador? Seriously, Panama played in the last Hex and they have to play a team that made the Semi's last time. The other two didn't make the Semi's?
