I dont so. I doubt the club will be investing that much in having the LA chivas fly to Colorado to play the crew.......
Which was my whole point. There used to be but not anymore. There was also a roster reduction this year.
There was one. But they got rid of it this year. I think they said it was too expensive for them to keep up.
that's a problem.. limited rosters. and on top of that the few reserves riding the bench .. the reserves could play against each other right before the 1st teams play each other.. this way they get some kind of playing time
let's say ex.. chivas reserves vs red bulls reserves @ 1:00pm and then 1st team chivas vs 1st team RB @ 3:30pm.
It's a little late for more ifs. Every league is given a chance in the CCL. That's the only chance you get. "Not taking it seriously" (which they did anyway) is a reflection on the quality of a club. There are no more chances for ifs. The proof is in the standings. The statistics speak for themselves.
The FMF got 4/4 teams to the Quarters The pamanian league got 1 out of 2 The Guatemalan league got 1 out of 2 The Honduran league got 1 out of 3 MLS got 1 out of 5 Up till this point the MLS is the fifth best league in the CCL, only getting 20% of their teams into the final 8. MLS does not deserve 5 spots in the CCL. not even 4. At most they deserve 3 spots. 2 for the US clubs and 1 for Toronto if they qualify
Marathon is arguably the best non mexican club in Concacaf today. They finished first in the group of death last year and once again are in the Quarterfinals.
My favorites to win the CCL in order 1. Toluca 2. Cruz Azul 3. Pachuca 4. Pumas 5. Marathon 6. Arabe Unido 7. Comunicaciones 8. Columbus Crew
Well, depends - is Tuca going to try and get the trophy this time, or tank it like he did against Cruz Azul last year? Because if it is the latter, than Pumas drops to...well, 5th if they don't bother, and 6th if they run out the u-20s again.
I agree. That really pissed me off. Why would anyone pass up the opportunity to be in the Club World Cup???
I'm not familiar with the situation you guys are talking about, but I could understand if someone prioritized league results before the Club World Cup. It's not really that prestigious as a tournament, kind of like the Confederations Cup.
Being champion of the world isn't prestigious? At least the Confederations Cup has another worldwide tournament that trumps it. The CWC is the only world title available for clubs.
As you know, spots go to countries, not leagues, so even if CONCACAF awarded spots based on merit Toronto FC's performance would be irrelevant to how many spots the United States got. Using your measure, MLS did worse in 2009-2010 (20%) than in 2008-2009 (25%) but that isn't the case. Honduras has Marathon, but Real Espana did worse in the Group Stage than any of the three MLS clubs. D.C. United and Houston Dynamo didn't make the quarterfinals and Comunicaciones did, but if D.C. and Houston both played two leg series against Comunicaciones I think at least one of D.C. or Houston would win.
Don't try to reason with them or they will call you names and then the mod will censor your post. It just isn't worth it.
Here we go with the ifs again. Can't you guys just go with the facts? That's why the games are played, so there would be no need for speculating. Mexican fans post facts here, then US league fans respond with ifs. Come on now.
them? you must have me confused with someone else. I´m not going to go apeshit over Evanj´s post which is respectful
even if Saprissa had beaten Cruz Azul on the final matchday, they still would be out because the Crew beats them in head to head
Jajaja I should have been more specific: When I say "one win away", I mean "one result away" - that Saprissa could have qualified (assuming all the other results occur as they did) just by beating Columbus at home.
