Well, we can't retain all the draft we have, we only have room for three of them, so, is better like that, trade two for a veteran than see them go bye, bye for nothing...
I'm guessing with his injury problems he was brought in as a back-up - is he out of contract? his old cap hit was about 175k or so, so either allocation money also changed hands or he is taking less money. Or RBNY and Ives have a really strange notion of low risk high reward means.
That and the possible DP won't be used until after the Euro leagues are over. Which means once again we will get a decent American and a DP player halfway through the season. Again. But go ahead and just keep adding on grist for my hate mill you @&^@(#*&@# asshats.
They said on the special 3 hour FFF we were trying to sign Jimmy Conrad....whoever that is. Also JPA was on the show. He was excited about the new stadium and to finally have people in here who know what they're doing. Zing! Not sure if I agree with him on the second part.
I think the Conrad trade will happen and I think VDB will find his way to Harrison as well. They're not going to allow us to just be pathetic in this brand new stadium, despite our best efforts.
you are just saying that because as a NYRB fan you are preconditioned to think that way. let it go. it's time to be positive without being delusional.
Well, they all have a chance to outplay each other AND some of our veterans. Borman, Sassano, Sinisa, and others will all have to outplay these kids. But history proves out that we usually keep only a couple of the draft picks by season's opening.
I think Sassano and Ubi are in real trouble...maybe Mbuta too as we have a lotta wingers now. Borman can play LB which should keep him around. I bet the first 3 from the draft get roster spots, Ream maybe on a dev deal.
IMO Sassano and Ubi are completely expendable. I could see Mendes or Boyens being in trouble as well once we make another signing at the back. Maybe one of them gets dealt in a trade, though I suspect neither has much value.
That's the kicker. Red Bull will have to find someone a lot better than current roster in order to justify making any trades. We don't have a ton of guys who really are worth much on the open market, at least not trades for real value. So I could some of these just cut outright. Maybe one or two traded.
Re: 2009/10 New York Red Bulls Offseason Analysis Thread EDIT : Added draft players. 2010 Red Bulls Roster Due to the pending labor negotiations it is unknown what, if any, rules are imposed on us that LA can ignore. Also, until futher clarification, we'll play by last years rules. Senior Roster Players 18 of 20 Albright, Chris Angel, Juan Pablo Boyens, Andrew Cepero, Danny Coundoul, Bouna Goldthwaite, Kevin Hall, Jeremy Kandji, Macoumba Johnson, Carlos Mendes, Carlos Miller, Roy Oebster, Ernst Petke, Mike Richards, Dane Sassano, Luke Stammler, Seth Ubiparapovic, Sinisa Wolyniec, John Developmental Roster 3 of 4 Chirgadze, Giorgi Mbuta, Matthew (Dev Eligable) Borman, Danleigh (Dev Eligable) Internationals 4 of 8 Angel, Juan Pablo Johnson, Carlos Miller, Roy Oebster, Ernst Designated Players 1 of 2 Angel, Juan Pablo All players below this line are currently fighting for three open spots on the roster. ---------------------------------------------------------- Draft Picks Tony Tchani Austin Da Luz Tim Ream Conor Chinn Irving Garcia Players Red Bull has Rights to. Traynor, Jack Ogunbiyi, Babajide
Ok... now that the draft is in the bag, time to project: -------------Henry/Kanji---------Angel------------ Da Luz/Oebster---------Tchani-----------------Hall ---------------------------Stammler---------------------- Miller--------Goldy/Ream----Petke/Albright--Johnson ----------------------------Condoul-------------------- Midfield is YOUNG, and all 4 CBs in my mind are just adequate at best. There's still work to do. By the way just for kicks I just found a scrap piece of paper in my desk from a while ago with a projected RB lineup like this: -------------Rivaldo(haha)----Altidore--------- DVB------------------Reyna-------------Schoop -------------------------Dema-------------------- Wynne---------Parke----Mendez----Dunnivant ------------------------Walrus----------------------
I think we need to find a CB upgrade and get a veteran for midfield (DVB?) -------------Kanji---------Angel------------ DVB-----------Tchani-----------------Hall or Richards ------------------Stammler---------------------- Miller--------Goldy-------NEW CB-------Johnson ----------------------------Condoul-------------------- works for me with Petke as a CB reserve, Da Luz as a midfield spark for offense off the bench...
I guess you're right, I'm not sure. I know he's always been primarily a RB. I guess he's just gonna backup Johnson and considering how many red cards he gets, that's actually quite a need!
One of the quotes I read regarding Miller (when he was signed a few weeks ago) was that he was brought in specifically as a Center Back. Also, this quote from yesterday regarding Albright: Also, I'm not going to dream regarding Henry, but I will regarding VDB: -------------Kandji/Woly---------Angel------------ VDB/Da Luz/Oebster---------DP Creative Midfielder/Tchani-----------------Richards/Hall ---------------------------Stammler/Sassano/Mendes---------------------- Borman--------Miller/Goldy/Ream/Petke/Boyens--Johnson/Albright ----------------------------Condoul--------------------
I recall reading this as well, if this is true we have a big opening in the roster, no real left back. At CB we need an upgrade, but at least have passable guys like goldy/petke to hold the fort.
I love imagining future lineups! But what about Backe saying we might play with 3 midfielders?? What would a 4-3-3 look like? As for a 4-4-2 I like phillips10 lineup and VDB could mentor Da Luz to 1 day to take over! And Perhaps either Chinn or Garcia can make it and be a Sub for Angel since he isn't as young as he use to be.
Per a thread on the N&A board, it looks like Michael Orozco is returning to MLS. Although the cited article says he is going to Philly, Philly's trade of its top spot in the allocation order would seemingly make this impossible (unless, despite being a returning member of the national team player pool, Orozco doesn't have to go through the allocation process). RBNY should, one would think, be in position to snatch him up. A left-footed center back is something the Red Bulls could use. I wonder if Backe has seen him play while scouting FMF.
It's simple, really. If Red Bull doesn't want to waste their allocation, the shit flows downhill to next in line. Probably San Jose, unless they did some sort of deal. I certainly wouldn't waste our allocation just to try to trade someone to Philly. There are much better players coming back this year.
------------------Angel ---da Luz----------------------Kandji/Richards -----------???????------Tchani ----------------Stammler Miller------Mendes-----Petke-------Johnson ----------------Condoul
Thats actually a pretty good lineup... I wonder if we'll actually see a 4-3-3 this year? Still need a few more players and I think we'll be set.
