I think in the far west UCSD will get the one seed, Seattle, based on their win of SPU, the number two. Which leaves three and four. CHico was forth, lost to UCSD in the finals, but beat sonoma in the semi's. I think that will be enough for a 3 or 4 seed. The last option is pretty open, I think. Western Wash. beat seattle and tied Central Washington. That gave them 2nd place in the GNAC. They did lose to SPU the week before, who are in third. So pretty open in my view, Do you take Western Washington, based on their better conference finish, and the fact that they split head to head in confernece with SPU?

    So my best guess
    1: UCSD
    2: Seattle
    3. Chico
    4. Western Wash.

    any other guessers.

    Tournament teams A-J ratings

Okay, here are first round pairings. I’ve used the 23 October A-J ratings to show the comparative strengths of those match-ups. A few of the ratings might change a bit (Metro should certainly drop after their 2nd loss) because of this past weeks games.

While the discrepancy is not as bad as last year, it’s apparent that the Western two groupings are by far the strongest. Those two average 1405, while the other six average 1285. The difference would have been even more pronounced if Chico State had been selected instead of Western Washington.

    Central - 1248
UNO 1502 vs. Central Missouri 1073
Washburn 1234 vs. Missouri Southern 1182

    Great Lakes - 1319
    GVSU 1465 vs. Quincy 1302
    Mercyhurst 1264 vs. Indianapolis 1246

    New England - 1322
    FPC 1469 vs. Massachusetts-Lowell 1196
Saint Rose 1422 vs. Bryant 1201

    Northeast - 1243
West Chester 1493 vs. Slippery Rock 1099
Indiana PA 1161 vs. New Haven 1178

    Southeast - 1274
    Carson-Newman 1387 vs. Columbus State 1121
Tusculum 1271 vs. Armstrong Atlantic 1218

    South - 1317
Tampa 1448 vs. Nova Southeastern 1187
West Florida 1320 vs. Saint Leo 1273

    Far West - 1377
UCSD 1456 vs. Western Washington 1260
Seattle 1396 vs. Seattle Pacific 1396

    Midwest - 1434
    Metro 1646 vs. West Texas A&M 1301
Saint Edwards 1384 vs. Central Oklahoma 1403

    - - - -

Teams Left Out that had one of the top 32 A-J ratings

    1373 Chico State
    1303 NKU
    1282 Southern Illinois
    1263 Merrimack
    1260 Humboldt State
    1248 CSU Dominguez Hills
    1246 Northern Michigan
    1218 St Mary’s TX

    Re: Tournament teams A-J ratings

Interesting that Nebraska-Omaha and Metro State have the largest discrepency of ratings over the rest of the field.. if you're looking for teams that should cruise through their regional, those are your best bets.

For once, head-to-head didn't seem to be the deciding factor in where teams are or whether they made it or not. Columbus State is in the Southeast region over Catawba despite Catawba owning a 1-0 win over the Cougars earlier in the season. Few can deny they had a better overall season than the Indians, though, and kudos to the NCAA committee for realizing that and putting them in.

Those A-J ratings are terrible, I saw at least one team that had three of it's already played games (as of the date listed on the ratings) not included in their record.

Yeah I agree Chico got totally jobbed. The CCAA is as tough of a conference as there is in the country, they win the northern section, go to finals, lose to the number one seed and.....no respect.

I think Home field is a big advantage in these affairs. So my crystal ball says metro and UCSD advance....

I hope, then, that UCSD is ranked higher than Metro so they would have the home field if they both advance out of their pods...

    Thanks for the link.

I'd be more impressed with that record if West Chester had played some better opposition. Now, they might be a very good team that just has the misfortune to play in a very week conference and against non-conference foes that are having a bad year...

The only NSCAA ranked team that they played was Indiana(PA). Their opponents average A-J rating is only 913. GVSU is the only other of the top 8 teams who has that low a rating:

    1162 CSU Dominguez Hills*
    1157 Quincy
    1157 Southern Illinois*
    1157 Wisc-Parkside*
    1156 St Edwards
    1153 UCSD
    1153 Chico St*
    1153 Sonoma St*
    1153 CSU Los Angeles*
    1136 Bellarmine*
    1116 NKU*
    1112 Indianapolis
    1097 FPU
    1091 Metro
    1090 Central Okla
    1088 Humboldt St*
    1088 Bryant
    1078 St Rose
    1076 Merimack*
    1054 Tampa
    1029 Tusculum
    1008 UNO
    1007 W Florida
    1007 Carson-Newman
    1003 West Texas A&M
    0983 Seattle
    0983 Seattle Pacific
    0983 Western Washington
    0914 GVSU
    0913 West Chester
    0913 Slippery Rock
    0909 Washburn
    0905 Mercyhurst
    0890 St Leo
    0886 Armstrong Atlantic

Those with an * are the ones who weren't selected to be in the tournament.

I agree with your comments on strength of schedule. I'm some what disapointed that the PSAC has opted to have the schools to play so many conference games. There are 13 schools in the conference, with two divisions of 6 and 7 schools each. It looks like each school plays the schools in their division twice and the other division once. Although West Chester and IUP in different divisions played twice. I wish they would have played more schools in the region. Although the schools in the western part of the state would end up playing out of region games if the stayed with schools that were near. But still a 20 - 0 record is still an accomplishment.

Far West First Game - Half Time

No score between Seattle & Seattle Pacific. The 'Soccer Gamewatcher' seems to work pretty good!

    SPU-SU 2nd OT [R]

Seattle Pacifics Godoy scored at the 107:39 mark. It will be tough for Seattle to come back with so little time remaining.

    UCSD-WW second half

I lost my internet connection for a while there. UCSD has added 2 more goals, another early one from Kathy Sepulveda and one 5-1/2 minutes after that by Kelly Cochran. The Tritons now have a 15-1 advantage in shots and an 8-1 advantage in SOGs.

Shouldn't this thread really be renamed the "DII West Coast Teams Thread" since that's what 90% of it is?

    Thread Title

The thread title was meant to be inclusionary - to give posters someplace to put their remarks if they did not want to start a thread about their particular team, conference, area of the country, or the national rankings/ratings. It's too bad that there aren't more out there who would want to do so...
