The Wizards have qualified for next year's CCC. I think we should plan an away trip - at least a small group with the checkered flag and Forza Wiz banner - to the first game. We'll probably be seperated from the two Mexican teams and DC United. There'll be 3 Central American teams and one Caribbean team. The draw will happen mid-January which would give us around 6 weeks advance notice to get flights/rooms booked. http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?lang=en&id=2730 2005 CONCACAF CHAMPIONS’ CUP – Schedule Quarterfinal Series First leg – 9 March Second leg – 16 March Semifinal Series First leg – 6 April Second leg – 13 April Final Series First leg – 4 May Second leg – 11 May
If USAir lasts that long, I'll be able to go on miles very reasonably. Here's to the Caribbean and Costa Rica!
If that's the case, Jamaica will be the destination: http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=2809
If the Wizards play a Costa Rican team, those of you with the money and the time (looking in Andy Mead's direction from past travel history ) would be crazy not to go to Costa Rica. Beautiful country (at least on the coasts). I'd be really tempted to head back down there if it fits a schedule.
I think if I had to pick a vacation spot I'd take Jamaica over any of the prospective Central American sides.
Hopefully the team starts practicing and playing whoever will play as early as possible. One or two extra weeks of preparation could be the difference in getting through the first round. After that hurdle, MLS teams can play themselves into competitive form.
From what I've heard, Jamaica is about one square mile of tropical paradise, and the rest is crap. Just from what I've heard, never been there myself. But like I said, Costa Rica is only nice on the coasts as well. Basically, anywhere in central american or the carribean where the tourists are, it will be nice, everywhere else, not so muc.
"Tivoli Gardens FC will meet Jamaica’s Harbour View FC in CFU Final Round Home-and-Away Series scheduled for 8 and 15 December. This will be the second consecutive year that the CFU Final will be contested by two clubs from the same country. Last year, CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh defeated W Connection FC (TRI) 4:2 on penalty kicks to claim the CFU crown." http://www.concacaf.com/view_article.asp?id=2809 still qualifying. after they finish that, probably.
