Unadjusted ("raw") +/- numbers for the 2004 regular season. Ritch +1.36 (under 400 minutes) Barclay +1.24 (under 90 minutes!) Sanneh +1.05 Wingert +0.67 Szetela +0.48 Buddle +0.42 Paule +0.39 Akwari +0.32 Marshall +0.29 Busch +0.28 Martino +0.27 Oughton +0.27 Fraser +0.25 Elliott +0.23 Hejduk +0.22 Lagos +0.12 Cunningham +0.10 Denton +0.07 Washington +0 Traeger +0 Jordan +0 "notfullstrength" +0 Herdsman -0.27 Maisonneuve -0.42 Testo -0.61 Scott -1.26 (143 minutes) Sutton -18.0 (only 5 minutes!) Ritch's numbers were surprisingly high, which back my assertion that while he didn't score goals, the team played pretty well with him in. Cunningham's numbers are not good. Not good at all. Herdsman can be "excused", since he was injured for most of our good run (and I think that was coincidence). With the exception of the statistical outliers, this looks to be pretty representative of who I think will be back next year, and who won't.
You're welcome. One point to add is that the Crew as a whole were +0.267 goals per 90 minutes, meaning that when players like Cunningham and Lagos were on the field, the Crew were weaker than usual.
Uhhh... thanks. That's interesting, because while it's difficult (due to tight substitutions compared to hockey) to get meaningful numbers, I think it can be very enlightening when you do. I think it applies best to players in the 400-2300 minute range (15 to 85% of the minutes played). Elliott, Marshall, Fraser, and Busch are above that range. Ritch, Szetela, Scott, Barclay, Washington, Sutton, and Traeger are all below. Sanneh +1.05 Wingert +0.67 Buddle +0.42 Paule +0.39 Akwari +0.32 Martino +0.27 **** TEAM AVERAGE **** Oughton +0.27 Hejduk +0.22 Lagos +0.12 Cunningham +0.10 Denton +0.07 Herdsman -0.27 Maisonneuve -0.42 Testo -0.61 That's the "middle" range of players. I'm not surprised by the numbers, but I think it's pretty clear which players contribute to winning more than others. Here is something really interesting. Cunningham was only +2 on the year, and had two game-winning goals.
