    2003 Pan-Am Games

    hey guys-

pan am games are coming up soon ... and there's women's soccer being held, although i believe it's a U23 (or possibly U21) tourney with a few overage players etc.

canada has announced their roster for the games:

    http://www.canadasoccer.com/eng/media/viewArtical.asp?Press_ID=1377

we have haiti and brasil in our group, although i'm not sure who's in the other group...

the game's official site is at: http://www.santodomingo2003.com although i do not see anything much ...

I notice Christine Sinclair is not on the roster.

Remember, she was going to sit out the W-League season in order to prepare for the Pan-Am Games and the World Cup?

This is very worrisome. I hope nothing really serious is wrong with Christine.

BTW, the other group is Mexico, Argentina, and Costa Rica

sincy is suffering from mono...hopefully she'll be at full strength soon!!!

i'm sorta surprised that the US is not sending a team, but then again...not really, since they don't really take the pan-am games too seriously.

Considering that the competition is less than a month away, that site is awful!

    results!

hhm...didn't even notice this, but two games have already been played...
am a tad surprised that costa rica lost, considering they had a good run before...

also, upon further "review" of the two groups, i really think they did a poor job in balancing them.

having both brasil and canada in the same group when i think both teams are the clear "favorites" in the entire competition isn't too good...i bet mexico is licking their chops their group is so much "easier"...

    canada all the way though!!!

    Playin' against the big girls

but, nonetheless an excellent opportunity for the younger players...

Good article from Terry. He's a real promoter of women's soccer. I like the idea of sending a new crop of youngsters to do battle with full national teams. Builds character and gives them a higher bar to measure themselves against.

Um, they changed the rules and didn't tell Canada?

What kind of half-assed operation is this tournament, anyway?

The Panam games are supposedly an U-23 affair. Meixco has brought a mostly U-21 team so they are not in strict sense "big girls". They are pretty young too...

Not a big deal either way. Doubt very much that Canada would have done things any different. Senior team has other priorities. This is great experience for those that won't make the WWC squad.

    hey...

here's the CSA game report from yesterday's game:

    read it here

    a blurb from the release:
is it me, or is the officiating here at the games just awful and it seems like they're out to get us? lol...i mean, seems like we've been on the end of some really bad calls...

"Eight minutes later it appeared as though Mexico had their second. A freekick for what appeared to be a clean challenge by Justine Labrecque was awarded 30 yards from the Canada goal. The freekick was collected by Holly Lincoln and then cleared but the referee pointed to the penalty spot. The ensuing penalty sailed over the crossbar though and the score remained 3-1. "

Freekick on a clean challenge followed by a penalty kick for something that no one saw? Am I reading this right?

    gold medal game postponed

    hey-

from this article Wet weather interrupts Thursday's schedule at Pan American Games, this blurb about the canada-brasil postponed game...
so the game will be picked up tomorrow...

renata costa and katie thorlakson leave the field

i wonder if this had any affect on those players travelling to vancouver for the training camp ... they are leaving directly after their games to vancouver, and maybe were scheduled to leave tomorrow...playing in the morning could really change things around...

but kudos to the team for coming back down a goal and really showing they can keep pace with the brasilians. unlucky about that OT goal...

seems like kiss was our MVP of the tourney...i'm hoping pictures will surface soon...

Well done to the Canadian kids. Big improvement over a 5-0 loss a few days ago. Shows what a little coordination and organization will do. Did Brazil play their WWC squad?
