My picks Braga vs P. Ferreira X Belenenses vs Academica 1 Guimaraes vs Nacional 1 Beira-Mar vs Benfica X2 Maritimo vs Leiria 1 Varzim vs Moreirense X Gil Vicente vs Setubal X Sporting vs Santa Clara 1 Boavista vs Porto X I never go against Beira-Mar so I play the Totobola with a dupla X2
Don't forget to read the Leixoes thread, what upset in Uefa competion from a portuguese III divison team.
Boavista vs Porto will definetelly make a impact if the game ends in a tied and both Benfica and Sporting win.
Attendance for Week 1 Setubal vs Boavista 5,000 Academica vs Sporting 13,000 S. Clara vs Braga 3,000 Leiria vs Guimaraes 2,000 Benfica vs Maritimo 44,850 Porto vs Belenenses 40, 750 Pacos de Ferreira vs Varzim 3,000 Moreirense vs Beira-Mar 1,500 Nacional vs Gil Vicente 2,500 reported by Record
Frank, These attendance figures are not very good. Obviously, the Sporting game would have had more fans if were held in a bigger stadium. But some of the other figures are not very good, are they.
The attendance are in the decline. We are luck that we have back in the Superliga Belenenses, Academica, Setubal it could be a lot worse with teams like Salgueiros, Rio Ave, Leca etc. With new stadiums expect big crowds special when the big teams come to town. I see teams like Beira-Mar, Academica, drawing 35,000 when Benfica, Sporting, Porto are in town, if the tickets are affordable. We can't hide the fact that after the top ten drawing teams we have some losers, teams that draw well at home beside the big three. Guimaraes Braga Boavista Beira-Mar Maritimo they all played away in the first game
Braga vs Pacos Ferreira under way. Castanheira scored a beautiful goal for Braga, still 1-0 in the first half. Castanheira was one of the players mention last year going to Benfica, instead Armando, Rocha, Tiago signed with the Benfica team. Armando is a Mozambique citizen.
Final score Braga-1-Pacos de Ferreira-0 Castanheira the goal scored was also red card during the game. Quim two weeks in a row save a penalty shoot, and the hero of the game. How far could Portugal go in the World Cup with Quim in goal. Quim is proved time and time again is the best goalkeeper in Portuguese soccer. Remember Quim don't play for Benfica, Porto, Sporting or Boavista, so he his in the game constant.
RTPi will be re-broadcasting Beira Mar - Benfica (Frank, you are in luck) Saturday night (9:00pm EST) and Sunday morning (10:00am EST).
Guimaraes-3-Nacional-2 Beira-Mar-0-Benfica-2 Big win for Benfica in Aveiro, a difficult place to win three points. Goals by Argel 8 m, and Simao in stoppage time.
Standings after Saturdays games 1. Benfica 6 pts [2games 2. Guimaraes 6 pts [2 games 3. Belenenses 4 pts [2 games 4. Braga 4 pts [2games 5. Sporting 3 pts [1 game 6. Beira-Mar 3 pts [2 games 7. Pacos Ferreira 3 pts [2games 8. Gil Vicente 3 pts[2 games
Its a good starter for Benfica and if they can beat Moreirense on the road, in the next game could be a starter of good things to come. I tie game between Boavista vs Porto will be great for Benfica.
I think Benfica should have no trouble with Moriense........... And if Boavista and porto tie then thell be in a good position to put some room between them and the rest of the teams.......
