Jermaine Jones, essentially, got 6 games for roughly the same thing when he attacked Geiger. Turan might miss half a season. Although I think this ban gets reduced on appeal.
Well it starts at the top. It's time some examples and deterrents were set...and followed through. I remember it was only 2 seasons ago that the EPL encouraged PL refs to caution (for dissent) any player who gets in the face of the referee. That lasted about 3 weeks. Then it became any player who runs across the field to dissent...and now they are weak on that. This sort of behavior trickles down very quickly to all the kids watching. It's got to stop. (IMHO of course)
