This will be an interesting game.
How will the team respond to the huge win tonight?
It's not Wolves this time, and, despite their rather lowly position at the moment Newcastle are a class team and not very easy to beat.

They will be in the hunt at the end of the year for a champions league position and as such must be considered a main rival.
Last season we had an abysmal record against the top teams, so far we won 1 and lost 1.

Team selection will be interesting, although i would bet that Hasselbaink will start up front for this one to continue Ranieris trend.
Regardless of how well Veron played against lazio i do hope he's not on the field for this one as the toon will be busting a gut to try and knock us off our lofty perch.

Team attitude from Chelsea will be interesting.
Under Vialli after a good European night it would be no shoch to see us lose this one, however, we have moved on considerably since those days.

I have a wedding to attend on Sunday outside NYC. Unfortunately I can't make it into Manhattan and back in time but does anyone know a pub/bar in the White Plains/Chappaqua area to see this one?

    I can watch in peace again;

this last match was like watching two children box each other. (And then the loser spit on the winner too.)

Now, on my birthday, not only do I get to see us beat Newcastle :))) but also the Roma - Lazio derby. Provided I don't have to work, of course.

At any rate, I am also really curious to see how we are going to respond after the midweek game. Hopefully we'll duplicate our performance against the Wolves, but I have a hard time seeing us put five past Newcastle. I wonder if Cole starts this one - I think he just might.

    The Duffer to start

Cole may indeed start, but i wonder if he'll be tried on the right wing?
If we had the Wed game and a Sat fix i would say for sure that Duff will be on the bench-but, there's a lot of time between the games and then there's a break for the internationals (again!).
I would expect Duff to start on the left and play for most, if not all, of the game.

Then again, Ranieri has never done what you'ld expect yet.

Is Gronks still unfit to play? No doubt Cole could use a start but I felt that if Gronks is fit to play, both he and Duff will definitely be able to stretch Newcastle's defense to it's limits.

Will Veron get a start then? He performed admirably against Lazio..... thought he would get a run too.

But as you've said Clan..... Ranieri is shuffling his cards yet again!

Oh by the way...... international week sukks!

    :(

Re: Re: The Duffer to start

I have never been a big fan of international football myself.
In fact, i only ever went to see England play three times at wembley-and one of them was because it was Brazil we were playing.
Most memorable thing about the whole game was an attempt by Zico with the outside of his foot from just over the half way line on the left.Almost went in, it was an unbelieveable piece of skill. The shot looked like it was destined for the corner post, then it started to bend...and bend...and bend.....went inches over the middle of the bar.

Anyways, club football has always been king for me.

    Gronks may indeed start.
I would think that Ranieri will put out his so called "prefered 11" for this game.I would offer that we will get a good look at the core of this so called settled side he has said he will have.I do hope that Veron isn't in it though.

This is a very big game for us, coming on the heels of that fantastic win in Rome.
Taking all three of Newcastle will put them some distance behind us with almost 1/3 of the season gone.
Yes we are chasing the title, but, Newcastle are a quality team and we don't need them to close the gap on us by turning us over--especially at home.

The key to this game for our players is keeping our concentration.

I agree. International football has always been filled with political selections and bad organisation, etc. The most exciting games too watch have always been at club level, apart from a handful of games at every WC, international games are always a dissapointment too watch.

As long as Duff, Mutu and Makalele all start the Dynamo Daylight board will be happy.

I will be waking up at 3:00 Monday morning, Australian time, to watch this battle unfold. It should be worth it.

We beat Newcastle 3-0 at Stamford Bridge and, in the last meeting, a Hasselbaink own goal :)() gave Newcastle a 2-1 win.

    Will Crespo start / play?
    How about Veron?
Any help here would be very much appreciated as we, in Australia, don't get much updates of EPL Soccer - only news on Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka mainly.

You should get FSW.I have come across several Aussies that have it and get all their info-which is up to date-from it.
Check out the fox/sky report at 7.00 (est) for all reports of the days activities. It is the 10.00 pm (bst) airing tape delayed for the states.

    Wow...a Ranieri first

Radio says we may have an unchanged team from the Lazio game.

That would indeed be something for Ranieri.

    Chelsea running riot

Really, this is good stuff from the Chels.

Crespo knocks it in and jsu as i type we have a penno.

O'Brian red carded after a foul on Mutu...lampard??? to take.

    Goal.

    Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle.

    Still in the first half.

Is this the settled side that Chels need?
Unchanged from a rampant performance in Rome and now answering all questions about how will Ranieris team do in that league compared to Viallis after a great European night.

    Johnson
    Crespo
    Lampard.

Jeezus, this is awesome. I think we managed to maintain some form after the Lazio game in midweek eh?

This team is begining to settle and well maybe this is THE year!

    HT Chelsea 3-0 Newcastle

    Could have been more.
Toon totally outclassed in that first half.
Best first half of the season?

Newcastle struggling some whithout Shearer in the team. Not easy to replace great players like that.
What a pity there is a break before the next match as we are really hitting our stride now.

    Chelsea 4-0 Newcastle

    Well, well, well.
Given does his best Barthez to Henry impression and the Duffer duly obliges by scoring.

Class performance on the whole by Chels.
