In the Spanish-language press, Palencia is apparently trying to back out on Chivas-USA. http://www.el-universal.com.mx/pls/impreso/noticia.html?id_nota=68944&tabla=deportes Meanwhile, Antonio de la Torre thinks that with a good season, he might have a chance to represent the USA. http://www.laopinion.com/deportes/futbol/?rkey=00041129181801501134
Peter Wilt is my hero!!! Too bad I'm a DC fan or I'd completely worship the ground he walks on. He'd get my vote for the next MLS commish. He just seems to get it.
Wow - very nice. Every MLS fan without a SSS (and maybe some of them WITH one!) is insanely jealous of Chicago today.
In a way, that explains a lot. Since he and most Mexican fans think MLS is poor, he has nothing to win by coming over and playing well, unless he absolutely dominated. He has everything to lose by playing poorly. You can almost hear him hitting the snooze bar on that rude awakening.
seems like the story would've been better had he explained how Klinsmann scouts the players. I mean FSW only shows one game per week. I think Oliver Bierhoff is his asst so he must be the one doing the scouting.
Is the plan to name it "Bridgeview Stadium" (as depicted in the artist renderings)? I hope so. Well, more specifically, I had hopes for a better name than that, but "Bridgeview Stadium" is fine compared to e.g. "the Jewel Center" or "Marshall-Fields Stadium" or something. I know the league needs money. But I can't ever imagine the words "the Home Depot Center" evoking the same kind of feelings of *tradition* that "the San Siro" and "the Camp Nou" and so forth do, no matter how many years of truly fantastic soccer pass there. I'm dreading when we finally get ours and it ends up named after Gannett or Lockheed-Martin or the Discovery Channel or something.
www.BugMeNot.com is my new hero along with Perter W's new stadium that he made happen... that and its Center Field player entrances... things are looking good....
I wish I had responded to this earlier, but I found nothing, ZERO, in that article that showed disrespect on the part of Palencia. The journalist, on the other hand, is a different story. But having watched the final Chivas game on Sunday, and having followed them a bit over the last 2 years, I definitely see where he's coming from. They made the final last year and easily could have won it, but fortune showed up for the better team and Pumas carried the Clausura championship. This year, they got screwed by themselves by missing 2 pks, and then got screwed by the ref on a bad call. Atlas outplayed them thoroughly for about 15 minutes, but the thing is, Chivas was still in the game and fought back valiently. I don't blame him one bit for wanting to finish the task at hand. That's not a disrespect to MLS. Not at all...
