Metros' stadium project up in air-North Jersey Herald News Soccer notebook: It's one loss too many-Star Ledger Still Waiting for a New Home-NY Times
Jack Bell in the New York Times seems to think that the acting governor's pronouncement that the Harrison project is dead gives the MetroStars some leverage that they didn't have before. I don't get that. I know they're saying they're not giving up on Harrison yet, but I fail to see how the possibility of Harrison not going through helps them at all. They could always have tried to make a deal with the Meadowlands, and having the Harrison option would give them more leverage, not less. Maybe I'm missing something.
Having another option, might create greater urgency in Harrison and Hudson County to get the deal done. I'm not sure what more Harrison can do, the county board does not feel comfortable guaranteeing the bonds under the current parameters.
We should take the Gov's comments with a little grain of salt, since he's got his own stake in the events. It's quite possible he was exaggerating, though does appear Metro's FO have been hiding the roadblocks from the public.
