11/12 CCL: Group D (Monterrey, Comunicaciones, Seattle, Herediano) [R]

They played well, but Herediano's gone down several notches since they reached the CRL final.

 

Communicaciones went down a bit with two of their best players being sold to Chile (Contreras, Pezzarossi). But it's actually a blessing in disguise since it gives the U-20 guys more PT.

 

Looks like Seattle will be rolling out the reserves this week. We should see a similar line-up to the one used against Monterrey.

 

Sounders win 2-1 at Herediano and Monterrey loses 1-0 at Comunicaciones.

Monterrey might not make it out of the group stage.

 

Three games left and they are only three points behind Com. Monterrey hosts next week, so a win gets them tied with a game against Herediano and the Sounders left. Heck. That's what Com has left too. should be interesting with Monterrey coming to Seattle looking to lock up a spot and the Sounders looking to give their reserves some playing time.

Sounders will hopefully lock up the top spot next week and can run out the reserves in the final two games... Well.. They could run out the reserves if they weren't already doing that. I think that is most impressive. Sounders have sent out basically their B squad augmented by starters and come out smelling like roses.

So, instead of all but clinching their berth into the knockout rounds, the Sounders ran our their reserve offense and paid for it, while Monterrey took Comunicaciones to the woodshed. In order to make it into the knockout rounds the Sounders have to get at least a draw next week against Comunicaciones. Monterrey can lock up a knockout round berth with a win and a loss by Comunicaciones. Neither Comunicaciones or Herediano can lockup a knockout berth, but Herediano can be eliminated if they do not defeat Monterrey, while Comunicaciones is eliminated if the Sounders and Monterrey both win.

 

Not only will Monterrey qualify to the Quarterfinals but they can still do it in first place

 

Yup. And they have a much easier path to 1st than the Sounders and Comunicaciones.

 

Specially if they can beat Seattle by 2 goals.

Really unfortunate for Cremas. They coulda been up 3-0. Hit the post on a half volley and missed the wide open rebound then later missed a clear 1 v 1 with the goalie.

2nd half's gonna get chippy.
