This is going to be a tough test for Mourinho, they'll be up for it and looking to advance i think. They haven't got as big a squad - and certainly not as deep talent wise - as we do, so i wouldn't be surprised if the field a near full strength side. Of course, we'll have a damn tough squad out there ourselves. I full expect us to win this game. 0-1 or 1-2.
After Newcastle's meltdown at the weekend vs. Fulham, i think this game will either be very easy or very hard. (4-0/1-0/0-1/1-1)
Surprised there's little banter here about tomorrows game to be honest. Or am i just showing my old school bias? Mourinho isn't going to make it easy on the Toon. http://icnewcastle.icnetwork.co.uk/...elsea-at-full-strength-for-tie-name_page.html
I'll bet there's upwards of 30,000 at this match. The toon always get good numbers. Sooooooo....you gonna be quiet then when we score
ha ha yeah, my mates arranged the tickets, so i will be in the thick of the toon army. but no worries, as a yank who has been over for about 5 months now, i have experienced nothing but hospitality from those who live in the north.
early reports are newcastle will field a full strenght squad tonight.whatever team we put out, this'll be a really tough test. if we can take our chances we should win but if we have another night struggleing in and around the box then i wouldnt be surprized with newcastle takeing this one to be honest.
http://www.chelseafc.com/article.asp?hlid=236945&m=11&y=2004&nav=news&sub=latest+news A squad of 17 travelled to Newcastle yesterday. Alexey Smertin dropped out at the last moment when he aggravated the groin strain which kept him out of last week’s match in Moscow. Claude Makelele and Ricardo Carvalho are amongst the players given rests for this Carling Cup tie. The 17 are: Cech and Cudicini; Ferreira, Johnson, Gallas, Terry, Huth and Bridge; Parker, Tiago, Gérémi and Lampard; Duff, Cole, Gudjohnsen, Kezman and Robben. I won't be surprised if Robben gets a break tonight. At least Parker should get the full 90 in Mak's place (I hope). If Bridge isn't 100% we could see Huth at CB and Gallas at LB.
Good game for Huth. Stick him on Shearer, one of the strikers in the Premiership we know isn't going to beat Robert for pace.
Huth would get taken to the cleaners by Shearer. Shearer is an awkward and irksome player for defenders and bloody sneaky too. I'd think Smertin would have better luck with him. Smertin not fit? maybe this. . . Johnson----Terry----Gallas---Bridge ---------------Parker -------Lampard--------Tiago Duff------------------------Robben ----------------Eidur Do we have any radio coverage of the game?
Looks like the lineup will be this: Cudicini Ferreira Gallas Terry Bridge Johnson Parker Tiago Duff Cole Kezman Interesting. I'd love to see the game to view how the formation will work.
I'll be heading to the pub with a fellow Chelsea supporter.... Its still on Setanta's site so hopefully it will be on. Those bastards.
How interesting. Ferriera - Parker - Tiago - Duff in the middle. Um... Suddenly all my good feeling has deflated somewhat to be honest....
Oh dear, well he might do it from the bench I suppose Jose Mourhino Tinkering in the area Radio 5 Live

Big test for 'batman' this one. It would seem he's been relegated to the "league cup squad' - never a good sign.
