Also doubling up as a Covid Cancellations thread, since these kinds of matches were hit the most in 2020 and 2021. Cross-border friendlies have often been impossible, and practice time has been reduced when competitive football overran into the off-season. Will it continue? - "Omicron: Third wave looms as India Covid cases spike" - "'Massive blow' as sports count cost of more Covid restrictions" - "Netherlands launches ‘painful’ Christmas COVID lockdown" - "Covid: Manchester City v Reading & Chelsea v West Ham WSL games postponed" Plenty of friendlies are still scheduled, one of the first being Freiburg v FC Basel in Germany on 12 January. Club Friendlies https://int.women.soccerway.com/int...iendlies-women/2022/club-friendlies-1/r66882/ And in the midst of this, Vietnam's national team are touring Spain to play club sides! That's in readiness for the Women's Asian Cup. A 3-0 win for VN at Pozoalbense is followed by games on 2-5 January vs La Solana, Cordoba, and Sporting Huelva.
...Well, Vietnam's tour of Spanish clubs didn't go so well. On the pitch, 0-0 vs La Solana and 3-0 vs Córdoba. But the match at 1st-division Huelva was cancelled, evidently due to a Covid outbreak at Córdoba and in Vietnam's squad, and it sadly ruined their preparations for the Asian Cup finals: - "Vietnam Women’s team determines to compete even facing difficulties" - (VFF, 18 Jan) ⬤ A massive margin in scoreline, and post-Christmas blues for the current top Polish club on return from the break. Opponents Turbine aren't far from a European place in the 2021/22 Bundesliga, while Górnik are 1st in the Ekstraliga, but the difference last Saturday in Brandenburg was 14-0, with 6 goals by Selina Cerci. Coach Robert Makarewicz: "Despite the high defeat, we do not regret coming to Germany. We tested our skills against a very strong opponent." - "Turbine smashes friendly against Poland's leaders (with gallery)" - (Sportbuzzer) - "Turbine Potsdam - Górnik Łęczna 14:0. A strict football lesson" - (Dziennik Wschodni) (image: Sportbuzzer) Potsdam followed it up with a 9-2 at RB Leipzig on Wednesday.
Time for everyone's favourite game show (or bleak mystery show), Denmark v Sweden: Whose clubs are temporarily better? (Thue C. Leibrandt, cc-by-sa) The Danish 3rd-placed club at mid-season, Brøndby, started 2022 with a win at the Swedish champions, 1-0 against Rosengård, with a goal by midfielder Laura Hermann after 70 mins. BK Häcken v Fortuna Hjørring had to be cancelled after Covid cases at Hjørring. Brøndby hosted Kristianstad on a windy day in the wake of Storm Malik, final score 2-3 for the Swedes. The champions of the Damallsvenskan and Kvindeliga met on 29 Jan in HB Køge's first match of the year, which ended Rosengård 2, Køge 0, and a hat-trick by Finland's Ria Öling gave Rosengård a 3-1 win over Nordsjælland this past weekend. CASE CONCLUSION = Inconclusive, just like every year. Russia's best teams met two Scandinavian teams in games in Turkey that went well for the Superliga clubs. 2021 title-winners Lokomotiv Moscow won 4-0 (2-0 HT) (Goals: Morina, Korovkina, Ruzina, Ilinykh) and former champions CSKA Moscow won 2-1, both against Brøndby - and Zenit took a 2-0 win in this match, delayed a day by bad weather: Djurgården [blue] - Zenit Sankt Petersburg www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPcjE0QEJtI - Match report: DIF.se
well, that was a little while ago.. Thank you to @Bauser and to @tjabba92 for covering the February friendlies, an inter-league gathering in Marbella. Marbella Football Center, Spain (img: Валерий Дед, cc-by) From the Norway thread: I thought the same, that there was a Nordic cup before and it was the stuff of legend, or at least the stuff of library. In fact, it's both: Women's Nordic Football Championship (1974-1982) Top goalscorers 10 goals Pia Sundhage; 8 goals Lone Smidt Nielsen; 7 goals Annette Frederiksen, Susanne Niemann, Birgitta Söderström I knew she was a genius. The past month has had more club international games, of which some or several are as follows: Växjö 1 - 1 Thy ThistedQ Diósgyőri VTK 7 - 1 SSU Poli Timişoara Vålerenga 1 - 0 Fortuna Hjørring Brøndby 0 - 3 Vittsjö Unfortunately, two matches of Sweden's AIK vs the new Finnish champions KuPS are marked by the home club with the scoreline "x–x", so they were either cancelled or ended 10–10 in Roman numerals. Now it's nearly time for the leagues' kickoffs, and there was a Norwegian-Danish clash in Sweden So, a "solid victory" for Lyn, and they also chose this game against Brøndby for the launch of their funny caption competition. Well, not really, but it could be. you probably guessed, the real right answer was (TOTAL PRIZE MONEY = 0 KRONER) (Move your mouse to reveal the content) (TOTAL PRIZE MONEY = 0 KRONER) (open) (TOTAL PRIZE MONEY = 0 KRONER) (close) Aahjem sitt nye skopar fortjente et velfortjent kyss av Julie Jorde etter to scoringer. Forgot her boots on the tram in Oslo before entering the team bus to Sweden. Had to buy a new pair in a local shopping mall in Kungsbacka shortly before kick-off. And scored two goals. Anna Aahjem will probably stick to that pair when the season begins on Sunday.

The Women's Cup Substandard officiating (at least in Milan game). Substandard pitch. Camera work during the match Milan v Beleza was awful. No basic stats from matches on tournament official page nor info on rosters or goalscorers. Highlights are a joke. International woso fans need to pay 5.99$/per match to watch it on TV I'll pass. Groenen's hardly getting any plaudits, but she was excellent today vs PSG and involved in pretty much every good United opening when she was on, including the Zelem goal, which was some finish. Clinton and Garcia were both quality coming off the bench (those consecutive flicks from Groenen and Clinton leading to Clinton's almost goal were delightful). Le Tissier, Batlle, and Baggaley all put in great shifts, and Leon was bright as well and at the heart of United's best two openings in the first half.

Bayern were clearly the better side today, but their first two goals were quite fortunate in my opinion. Throw in Galton's missed sitter (too harsh?) in the 53rd minute off a nice Groenen cross (preceded by tidy passes from Zelem and Batlle), and I think 3-0 may have been a bit harsh on United in the end.
