A new season brings a new thread! (Which means the 2017-18 thread should be locked ) Thread title was just to get things started. Feel free to change the title if need be. @Viscaelbarca @jfcule @os_mutante @inswinger And what better way to kick the new season off than with the return of the Helmond Cup! ÖFB-Cup, 1. Atletico Madrid have announced the signing of Gelson Martins from Sporting. They have already signed Lemar from Monaco and Rodri from Villareal and managed to hold on to Griezmann. The best team in Madrid are going to be a serious threat next season.

Interesting to see that Serie "A" adopted the UK's tradition of playing Boxing Day matches this season. All 20 teams will be in action on 26 December, and then all teams will also play the following weekend (29-31 December). Accordingly, the winter break gets moved to the first part of January. Makes sense as January is the coldest time of the year where the probability of having games postponed due to weather is at its highest.
Mourinho moans again, but this time putting his own team down. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s sacked.
Tough read but a really interesting concept, they rate about 10 top clubs by looking at their usual bench 7, so they do list the starting 11, and they list those missing out (Stones not even on banch for ManC for instance), they do not compare the top 11s but just the next 7s. I cannot say I agree with it, just that it is fascinating to look at as very likely the next CL winner is on the teams analyzed list. Obviously players are still being bought and sold: http://sport360.com/article/footbal...rope-but-barcelona-and-real-madrid-are-behind
Also, "United till I die" is one of the more famous chants sung by Man United supporters, whereas I've never heard Madrid supporters sing the equivalent. So I'm thinking its not the first time the group changed its name.
Now Sporting want €100mn for Gelson Martins, a slight increase over the €32m that Atletico paid them. Sporting are claiming that the contract wasn't cancelled and therefore Atleti should pay the full release clause. https://en.as.com/en/2018/07/27/football/1532707582_022726.html
BBC just posted an article that Premier League clubs have spent £530m less than last summer (which works out to about 40% less) with only 8 days to go in the window. The next week could be a bit crazy.
Okay, now I see the motive for Juve. They stand to get £32m in 2019 plus Bonucci (who, based on his selling price just one year ago, is worth another £32m) and £16m immediately by sending Higuain on loan for the first season. That almost pays for Ronaldo!
