Hearing he will sign with Bayern Munich https://t.co/dfdXiEFjW8— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) December 15, 2021 The beauty of getting information right before taking off. Dortmund. He will sign with Dortmund https://t.co/TuDmI37gmt— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) December 15, 2021 I assume he has more that the US/UK passport combo as he can't get to Germany before 18 without an EU passport.
FWIW, the Washington Post named him its fall HS player of the year, noting: He is expected to pursue professional opportunities in Europe next season. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/12/14/fall-all-met-2021/ (Virginia public schools play soccer in the spring.)
Geburtstag wechseln. (RNBVB)— BVBJugend (@BVBJugend) March 26, 2022
This says he got an assist: 🇺🇸 Kristian Fletcher is on the radar of Borussia Dortmund. The 17 year old had a trial at BVB and played in the 4-2 friendly win vs Paderborn earning an assist. If BVB wish to sign Fletcher they can only do so next year when he turns 18. [@RNBVB]#BVB pic.twitter.com/fj8f0gpt8G— BVB Express (@BVBExpress) March 27, 2022
This thread says he is with Loudon United (DC United system) for the time being for a better level of competition. 1525493391949279232 is not a valid tweet id This news somehow slipped by without any official announcement. The situation as I understand it is that Fletcher is with DC system for time being for higher competition than he was getting with Bethesda U-17 in Spring and his private school in Fall. https://t.co/d6EaoTXI4o— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) May 16, 2022 These things can always change, but I would not count on him being at DC long-term. What I hear is that he still very much plans to sign in Europe when eligible and this is temporary fix for his development.— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) May 16, 2022
Good to hear. FWIW I graduated from Landon ~20 years ago and played under the current coach. He told our alumni email group Fletcher is the type of player most coaches will never get the chance to experience no matter how long you do it. Said without question the most talented and complete player at his age he had ever seen. The level of completion is just average though in the IAC so it’s good that he’s developing elsewhere now. As someone already mentioned, Landon is a lacrosse (and football/hockey) centered school.
There’s been talk Fletcher will spurn interest from BVB and sign instead with DC United. As far as I understand, that is an option but nothing is completely decided. Speaking with a lot of people about this the past few days, what I’ve heard is that the path at BVB isn’t ideal.— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) July 29, 2022 DC United is trying to get him signed, but don’t think club is pushing him into decision soon or that deal is close. These situations can change quickly. However, I believe decision not too close, likely months away. Contrary to prior reports, believe DC/BVB both on the table.— USMNTProspects (@ProspectsUsmnt) July 29, 2022
It seems at least moderately interesting that, if he is in fact negotiating in some way with DC United, that DCU is now led on the field by Rooney, who of course has deep connections to Manchester United, where Fletcher spent some time. You might see a guy like Rooney having a high-profile youth signing on his to-do list.
Likely to sign for DC United: News: DC United, I'm told by multiple sources, are signing Loudoun United/USYNT striker Kristian Fletcher to a homegrown contract. Fletcher, 17, starred @ Landon HS & played for Bethesda SC. Trained w/Man United U-19s this offseason, was reportedly linked to a Bundesliga side.— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) August 11, 2022
Fletcher is a very, very, very talented player and the upside is huge. Signing with a look towards getting MLS minutes far before he’d get Euro minutes makes tons of sense for him, that is as long as DC United handles him well…
So I guess this is a trial (mostly in training) for a free transfer thru a mutual ownership group: Sources: Swansea City is finalizing a deal to sign US youth int'l winger Kristian Fletcher on loan from D.C. United. Loan deal thru the winter.Fletcher, 18, highly-rated talent. D.C. and Swansea share ownership. With @stujames75 https://t.co/K1pTT5iebo— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) September 1, 2023
