But the idea that most people are thinking that Soccer City is dear, scares me. The idea alone may turn support to SDSU campus west proposal.
Of course SoccerCity has to pass, and it’s support was already wavering before SDSU presented its apparently pretty viable (and comparable) plan that had one thing SoccerCity always should have had for a city this size... a 35,000 seat stadium. One capable of hosting MLS and expandable should the NFL come back no less.
I think that MLS teams should definitely have u23 teams, but I don't think those should be fully professional. If you use England as an example, the PL2 (Premier League 2) is a u23 league of the top ranked Academies from across the entire coutnry. (see here). Yes several of those teams are full Premier League teams, but their Academy classification doesn't stem from where the senior team plays. Second and Third Division leagues are fully professional around most of the world. Youth/Reserve leagues are separate. I don't want to see MLS 2 teams in the USL D2 or D3. Extend the PDL season to a full season like the pros play. This is likely already on course to happen in the next 3-4 years anyway. Check this out: https://www.soccernation.com/exclusive-usl-president-jake-edwards/ Edwards says and implies all across this interview that there is more coming from USL.
That's fine, but the reason MLS is wanting these teams to be professional is so they can sign young talent to professional contracts and get compensated if these players end up going to Europe. They're some top talent (18 year olds) to Europe because they haven't had a way to sign them to professional contracts and get them minutes (they were ready to be signed, but not ready for MLS level of play). Either way, it's likely not to change.
I doubt there is a drop dead deadline for them to switch leagues. Probably more of a logistics burden to lock in dates for their season. Their USD plan is only through the summer and their Oceanside Stadium won't be ready for a while. I think if they switch leagues they push their on-field debut to 2019.
Oside Stadium is scheduled to be completed by years’ end and they have Torero thru 2018. So it’s not like they can’t start next year as they’ve been planning for. The issues will be league logistical, which would be the true drop dead date I mentioned. Given how late USL schedules come out though they may have a few months yet to make the 2018 jump.
They don't have Torero through the end of 2018. They have it through the NASL Spring Season. There is certainly a deadline for competing in the 2018 season. Probably late January. Oceanside is on target for 2019. The permitting process is underway now from what I understand.
Nope they announced they have Torero through the 2018 season, spring and fall. Oceanside is still a go for 2019. Originally they were saying spring but that got modified.
Its over in the SD NASL thread. You are correct that originally they were only saying spring season before the move to Oceanside, but more recently they modified that and got a full year from USD.
You referring to this? http://www.10news.com/sports/1904-football-club-announces-oceanside-stadium-plan That's not a confirmation of Torero through 2018.
Also, there's this: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com...no-elcorazon-construction-20171201-story.html No application to even begin construction in Oceanside from 1904. Yet.
Well understandable they’d be slow on the stadium... they’re still trying to figure out if they have a league. They’ve been very clear it’s D2 or bust for them. A and there’s no guarantee USL lets them in as we know. I’d imagine the stadium will be stalled until that works out. As for the 10 news item, looks like a confirmation to me in absence of anything contrary.
https://www.metro.us/sports/source-...ams-might-not-enter-nasl#.Wl5wx9jmfu4.twitter San Diego has explored the possibility of playing in the USL one source said. In addition, the possibility of joining the NISA is an option as well a source close to the situation said.
Come on you're talking about a group that named their team after a ridiculous joke from a movie. I have little confidence that they know anything they are doing is correct.
Anchorman and yes I know the real story behind the name and use of 1904. I've lived in San Diego before and had heard it a few times. It was a joke.
That was actually Albion SC - were looking at NASL and USL in the past. Currently still interested in going pro. Landscape is obviously a mess right now.
