http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-...ey-officially-named-head-coach-of-Sky-Blue-FC an old article written months back when Lindsey was named head coach. heres a quote from management clearly they had belief in her at one time but something along the road went wrong. id hate to think that it just had to do with the assistant coach getting the ax but i believe it had to do with her being uncomfortable from the beginning with the firing of Sawyers but still wanting to be with the team or atleast a few players on that team. the assistant coach fiasco was her ticket out of there. i hope she speaks out with the actual truth in detail.
Only if you believe what management is saying now. Considering they're pretending the previous assistant coach never existed, I'm not sure I do.
Wow, I thought Metrostars had a dysfunctional FO... SBFC management may have shot themselves in the foot by badmouthing Lindsey, especially given that what they said about her supposedly poor performance is just not true. Given the nature of the comments, what sane head coach worth his or her salt would want to walk into that cesspit next year knowing that there's every chance they'll be undermined, backstabbed and slandered by their bosses?
I'm moving to Europe for grad school in the fall. So maybe then I'll tell you about how wrong you've been in 99% of your SB posts in the past 2 yrs. Or maybe I'll just enjoy being a SB fan next year knowing how amazing the players and all of our fans are. :-D
oh please please let us know..if you have inside info its your duty to let us know...haha sound like someone else on here....hahahha just having fun......there will be coaches interested b/c this team is a great bunch of ladies.....
Indeed. She is the assistant's direct supervisor. If there are allegations which might get him fired, to not involve her is poor management. But I thought it was open season on him? Indeed. If he was dating/sleeping w/ more than one player (or staff member) it is slimy on a personal level but they are all adults and stuff like that happens in many work places. And if there was illegal stuff (ie harassment) then his supervisor needs to be in the loop. If management doesn't trust the coach to do her job, then I can see why she might decide to leave. I think the "too close to Sawyers" is smokescreen--even if he is the biggest meanie ever. While Lindsey may not be completely blameless given that she walked out w/ only 2 games left, I can't quite believe the SB management side unconditionally. I'd love to get Lindsey's viewpoint. And Sawyers, too. He's been very quiet since his departure.
Lindsey was a good coach and will be in the future. The girls liked her and the team turned around under her leadership. Management needs to give a better explanation and are a bunch of losers for dissing her like they did.
I guess it's all speculation untill the whole story comes out and we hear the whole story from both parties. We still have no idea what happened behind the scenes concerning the assistant or Lindsey's actual reasons for quitting since she has said nothing. We just know a few bits and pieces. Maybe after the season is over we may know more.
Feel free to contact me. You have my email - I will not POST anything from any personal conversation. I keep no secret of who I am - or that I am over 2 hours away and most of what I put up is pure speculation. I don't claim to have any inside info, I have several players are I am friendly with, but I do not post ony personal conversations on here, because I want them to continue to trust me Most of my interactions with SB have not been positive on the whole, albeit not entirely unpleasent You say how amazing the players and the fans are.... not the organization.
we only know the management's side of this story, so lindsey comes out with somewhat of a foul smell. however, since she took over this team, they have been playing very well - much better than they were under a much more heralded head coach. that's the sign of a good leader. so i expect her, in spite of this incident, to be back in coaching after everything dies down.
how can you heap praise on a Coach (when taking away the interim tag) and then say she was not a good coach, in over her her head, still chatting with Sawyers... Wishy Washy organization, they should have handled it the way they handled the Sawyers incident... guess they don't like it when people leave on their own terms By saying that, it makes Lindsey look ok for leaving, not good or bad
There is not enough information to determine what really happened. more details from the parties would be required. What can be said is that Blue Sky management has not distinguished themselves this year. 1. They select a coach (Sawyers) who has to be dismissed not halfway through the season. 2. They promote an assistant to be interim coach...but she decides it's best she resigns without comment (so far). Managements departing words are not salutory. 3. Now, they are relying on a player Coach (a great player)....at least for two games, maybe more if they qualify for the playoffs. This is one sport where a player-coach combo is not ideal on game day. It's not like she has an inning or series of down, or free substitution where she can rest on the bench and make the next move. She's gonna have to do substitutes on the fly -- or she will have to delegate that responsibility.
The evidence that SBFC isn't too smart is that if Lindsay isn't talking, it's pretty stupid to be slagging her. You thank her for her hard work, wish her well, and hire someone else. Being nasty just makes it harder down the line, and it's hard to see this being helpful to SBFC or anyone else. OTH, as a Washington Freedom fan, it's always fun to see a dysfunctional organization to the north . . .
I would think that most coaches could establish their substitution policy for a game ahead of time with possibly some tweaks for halftime, e.g., our starting right flank defender is only effective for about 70 minutes, so put in so-and-so when she starts looking gassed. If we're behind after 60 minutes, take out such-and-such a defender and put in a substitute forward. Here's a list of the starters and the best players to go in for them if they have to come out. And so on. Then they leave that with the assistant.
this makes sense. but i have to agree with mille rulz. soccer is one of the worst games to be a player coach when you are playing every minute of every game as rampone is probably going to have to do. there are so many things that you have to keep juggling even as you're playing the game. plus all the people managing that's just impossible because you are a fellow player and friend as well as their coach.
Not that I necessarily disagree w/ the substance of your post, but one point of order, I believe Rampone is still out injured (this week at least) since she is still recovering from her abdominal surgery relating to the ovarian cyst rupture.
Interesting article from Jacqueline Purdy with new developments, including a response from Lindsey: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=665089&sec=wps&root=wps&cc=5901
Looks like the rest of the story is coming to light now....pretty ridiculous to leave your team like that
I don't know, kind of sounds to me as if she was having issues already, and this was just the last straw: "I point to the public comments made by Sky Blue as an example of the behavior I do not wish to be a part of any longer." That it took four or five days for the management to admit that Dorini was fired is pretty telling to me.
From Marrone's response, I don't blame her one bit. It's one thing to tell his side of the story, quite another to go on and on and on about her inadequacies as coach and what she did wrong, etc. Every hint of a compliment was quickly turned around and made into a negative.
thats what i heard was that the assistant was suspended while they looked into the situation. but who knows if we will ever know the truth...
