FIFA should be following the same standard as they awarded the FIFA Youth Player award. In the end, the poll showed that Valencia came 1st and C.Ronaldo came 2nd, and considering Valencia was out before Ronaldo, he should've got the award but FIFA came in and said that Ronaldo didn't get it for many reason's including non fair play. After they gave the award to Podolski, they even said that these guys are supposed to be role models for fair play and that Ronaldo didn't meet those criterion.

I thought FIFA would've followed their own example and given the award to Cannavarro or Pirlo, Italy's 2 best players in this tournament. I guess politics plays a bigger role in FIFA. They HAD to give it to Zidane because HE was supposedly the greatest player to retire this World Cup.. grrr.

Can you provide some sort of link? I've heard about this on posts but never read an article...

If this is true, FIFA should be consistent in their awarding of trophies

"We had a number of criteria but we have to admit players of that age do have their weaknesses and are not fully developed.

"Players should be role models and fair play is a consideration.

"But we have to admit young players are not always mature tactically and they also have difficulties in handling stressful situations."

This thread will just add fuel to the fire for French supporters who worship Zidane. The truth is he wasn't the best player in the tournament but was helped by a sympathetic press corps on his retirement.

    exactly

listen zidane did not perform nearly as good as he did in previous performances
he made 2 pks after his fellow french players took dives in the box
one bounced right off the crossbar and he was lucky it went it

zidane deserves to have the golden ball revoked and a scar forever on his reputation
his headbutting incident was out of frustration stop blaming materazzi for a little trash talking which was not personal
