Daughter #1 had a big unhappy when she heard about Steffen's move. She described the transfer with one word: sadness. News of Santos remaining with the club did not help lessen her despair. She had these two songs on repeat this mourning: “So it’s true when all is said and done, grief is the price we pay for love.“
I wholeheartedly agree. I did finally get her to admit that the Beatles are good this past weekend. A minor victory in the war. Now to get her on-board with ELO.
Oh, I agree. The Beatles just happen to be some of the first "old person music" that she has acknowledged as good. We play way more ELO than Beatles in the house. She surprised me when, during Blackbird, she said, "I like this band." But then she asked if I would put on Charlie Puth.
You're an awful, awful human being who needs to reflect for a very long time on the terrible choices you've made that have brought your soul to this putrid hellscape.
Has anyone put forward the idea that City is just doing this so City III doesn't have to face Steffen anymore?
Please let me know if I'm wrong: I can't see him being involved in a Pep team, at all. I might be wrong because I watch the Crew only occassionally and have gone back looking for video of his efforts with the ball at his feet, but those tend not to make it into highlights. But while he's a top drawer keeper, he's always looked to me to be a traditional keeper. Pep has ignored quite a few wonderful traditional keepers in his time. His unicorn is beyond the sweeper keeper into the libero or even #10 keeper notion. Being a top quality shot stopper, which is how I see Steffen, is secondary to starting the attack. To me, he seems good with his feet, but not elite with his feet. Which is just to agree with your point. There are a lot of top level clubs at which he could grow and excel, but the CFG way would represent a fundamental change, doesn't play to his strengths and doesn't look like a perfect fit.
Cross posting this from the off-season thread. I'll miss seeing Zack between the pipes at MAPFRE. I hope he has continued success in Europe and for the national team. I LOVE YOU, ZACK!
So Daughter #1 seems to be pleased by the news. And before any of you ask, yes, she will be grounded for typing "FREAKIN" in her response. That kind of language is 100% unacceptable. We say ********in in this family, dammit.
Any rumors on if the other keepers at Man City are leaving, or is he riding the pine when he arrives.
As others have noted (on BigSoccer and elsewhere), there's more work to be done before his work permit is sorted. Looks like it's not a loan to Columbus, but as I reported Steffen is staying in Columbus for now. Gives him a chance to play official USMNT games in summer and get work permit sorted. https://t.co/Sxnyf9YJR3— Paul Tenorio (@PaulTenorio) December 11, 2018
So the plan is for Zach to be here through camp for the Gold Cup, Berhalder starts him through that tournament so as to build the case for his UK work permit to be granted, and he leaves the Crew immediately after it's over.

Good for, Steffen. But that really speaks to what a terrible year it was for US Soccer players and player development.
