"Que Sera Sera" - Doris Day The audience scenes crack me up. This must be where the term stuffed shirt originated.
When I was a toddler/small child, 3 1/2, my family drove from western Mass to Idaho for my father to take up the job that would make him the biggest frog in a small puddle/profession. The interstate system was barely started and the trip took what seemed months to me; might have been maybe ten days, actually, back roads most of the way. The new used car, a Pontiac station wagon, had, wonder of wonders, a radio-- what will they think of next, Marthy… And the two songs that were on the radio, East to West the whole trip, from one small station to the next-- were this and Sheb Wooley's "One Eyed, One Horned, Flying Purple People Eater." I figured out somewhere around Cleveland that Kay Sarah wasn't a person but a phrase in some other language, and spent the rest of the trip meditating on whether the monster was purple, or ate flying purple people...
"Zip Code" - The Five Americans (1967) Probably best known for their 1966 hit "Western Union (Dit, da dit, da dit; Dit, da dit, da dit; Dit, da dit, da dit; Dit, da dit, da dit....)".
That sounds something like a song written for "A Mighty Wind" - what a group who hit big with Western Union would try to capture the magic again. Numbers/symbols time . . . let's go with Jackson 5 with "ABC."
I know....go figure. If I recall, it wasn't uncommon for groups back then to take a hit song, change the words, a note here and there, and voila!! New hit song! Most of these bands are now referred to as "One-hit Wonders". EDIT: Which has nothing to do with this group. Four Seasons - "Opus 17"
Three Dog Night - "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)" Was a hit in 1970; and I'd forgotten it was written by Randy Newman.
Try this'n-- this is Elvis mimicking "Just a member of Billy Ward's Dominoes" doing "Don't Be Cruel." Only he's such a great mimic that after awhile you realize that, even though Elvis didn't know the guy's name then, you do now... Also, this was the legendary first Las Vegas trip, the one where he bombed so badly that as he rode away in the bus he swore he'd come back as the highest paid performer they'd ever had (he did just that)-- but he seems to have taken the humiliation in strife here...
I had.........no idea. I know I sure wanted to hear more from Billy Ward and his Dominoes after hearing Elvis talk about their version of "Don't Be Cruel"...........Turns out, I did.
Pete Droge - "Hampton Inn Room 306" - Necktie Second (1994) I'm assuming there's no particular numerical order.
Jackson 5 - "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" Not quite through the first week of December, and if I never hear this song again.....I'm good.
"Ava Maria" - by anyone.. Beautiful song; respect to those that can sing it well; I'm ready to move on...
...and since we've moved back to the alphabet, here's a song I've been waiting to post since I saw it performed a few months ago. Betts, Duane - "Taking Time" Son of Dickey Betts and named after Duane Allman. Sometimes it's just written in the stars.
