Idris Muhammad- (not) Bessie's Blues EDIT: upon listening, this isn't Bessie's Blues but a Monk tune called Rhythm-a-ning
There isn't enough music with singing saws being played. Solution? They Might Be Giants, here with a song straight out of history in "James K. Polk" about the unlikely election of James K. Polk as eleventh president of the US. And a singing saw.

"Promise Land" - Sonny Landreth Sonny is touring as a member of John's backup band 'Goners - featuring Sonny Landreth' with John Hiatt (30th Anniversary of Slow Turning Album tour). Even if you're not a big JH fan, but want to see Sonny - go. He doesn't steal the show, but is very much a big part of it.
Jazz Q- Konstelace Czech guys. That's all I know. Starts with a synthesizer "chant". The monks clock out around 00:28 and then you get the Felony Squad/Mod Squad car chase, the Fender Rhodes solo, the bongos, the whole bit.
"Song for a Winter's Night" - Gordon Lightfoot (One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite singers) Best known for If You Could Read My Mind; Sundown; Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald; Carefree Highway; etc, he also wrote songs that were hits for others: Cotton Jenny - Anne Murray; Ribbon of Darkness - Marty Robbins; and Early Morning Rain - Peter, Paul, & Mary. (Now.....you know you've been around awhile when PP&M recorded one of your songs. Originally, it was the B-Side to the single Lemon Tree)
"XKE" - The Fender Benders Never heard the song before, but somehow came across it while searching through Link Wray (after going through I don't know how many others) looking for anything starting with X.
The right song title can introduce me to all sorts of music/artists. Case in point? "Johnny Cash" from Yelawolf.
Ah yes-- junior year in boarding school. Bob Livingston had the Paul Mauriat version and played it constantly, echoing up and down the halls and staircases. Mauriat's take on it was much smoother, though...
A, you say? One of my favorite earworms of all time, which (when it descends upon me), I "sing" at top volume even though it has no words. It's Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass with "A Taste of Honey."
Excellent choice on the A! "Blue Suede Shoes" - Jerry Lee Lewis A local club was hosting an annual event that honors one of our local musicians that passed away a few years ago while also serving as a benefit for St Jude. Well, I'm certainly all about sitting in a local club drinking and eating while listening to good music supporting a worthy cause, so Ms Robot and I go. About an hour in, they have an auction (co-hosted by Jerry "The King" Lawler, but I digress). They start out with some stuff I don't really care anything about.....Then suddenly......they're auctioning off a pair of blue suede shoes that Jerry Lee Lewis pulled out of his closet to donate. The bidding's at $400; I turn to Ms Robot and say, "I'm going to bid $500." She says no. We're back and forth (I don't have much time). I'm like, "JERRY LEE LEWIS.......BLUE SUEDE SHOES......What do you not understand, woman?" She says, "But $500?" I tell her, "Look. BLUE SUEDE SHOES was a song written by Carl Perkins, made famous by Elvis Presley; these were worn by JERRY LEE LEWIS...we're talking 3/4 of the Million Dollar Band, here!!....Throw in Johnny Cash and you've got the whole mill!!! I don't bid. Then she asked me what I was going to do with them. I told her, "I was going to build a shelf in the living room, put them on it, and hang a big neon sign that says "Blue Suede Shoes worn by Jerry Lee Lewis" with arrows pointing at them." Duh! However, I'm able to sleep at night because I'm pretty sure if I had bid $500, someone else was going to bid $600, and that was going to start getting out of my range of interest. Whew!! I feel better. Thanks, guys.
