Galaxy started 3 current academy players (Sepulveda, Estrada, and Hernandez) in a 1-0 loss to Tulsa, and Arteaga came on in the 57th min. Vom Steeg got his 1st start.
Sepulveda started at left back. He's normally a left-sided CB, and a good one, but it's even better that he has that versatility. I was hoping he'd get a shot with the current U17s.
Michael Pellegrino '01 gets the start at CM for Bethlehem Steel. I believe he's the fifth 2001 to play in the USL this year. (Sepulveda, Llanez, Koontz, Gonzalez)
Some comments from the USL https://www.si.com/soccer/2017/10/03/usl-division-2-application-us-soccer-nasl-lawsuit-jake-edwards One would imagine the fifth club is either an NASL club or another MLS2 club. It's hard to envision a brand new independent club being unveiled and launching in time for the 2018 season. There isn't enough time.
So does that mean that FCDII is in or out? At this point don't they have to say something soon to be eligible?
👏 Congrats, @efrain_alvarez1!The youngest to ever play in a @USL match. pic.twitter.com/ca1IQQZStp— LA Galaxy II (@LAGalaxyII) October 8, 2017 We take the lead! @efrain_alvarez1 👉 @jackmcbean #LAvPOR: https://t.co/JPEDnv44Zd pic.twitter.com/GaZVTzX9oC— LA Galaxy II (@LAGalaxyII) October 8, 2017 I realize it's not pleasant to think he's playing for Mexico YNTs, but keep in mind he could plausibly eventually come back to the US, given he wasn't a starter for Mexico at the CONCACAF U15s. Maybe Mexico U15s are truly that dominant or perhaps there is underrating of a US-developed prospect, but he was just a sub. Not saying he won't make it with El Tri, but clearly there is a difficult road ahead for him. We got Jesse Gonzalez, Ulysses Llanez, Jacobo Reyes back from Mexico. And Alvarez has retweeted USYNT stuff, so he likes the US, just Mexico more.
You seem very connected with DC United, so let me ask you a question, and this is the wrong thread for this, but who cares? Have you heard anything about Moses Nyeman ('03) on the team's U-17's? He's probably the youngest player in the country regularly playing at the U-17 level in the DA, and I saw a few games posted on youtube, he looks the clear standout player on the field playing against much older players. The other standout player in the '03 age group we've heard about Dante Sealy (FC Dallas) didn't look anywhere near as good against players the same age, which I'd say is normal, but underscores how impressive Nyeman has been.
Noah Verhoeven '99, a US/Canada dual national, made his debut for Whitecaps II yesterday. He was called into the US U18s earlier this year.
As far as I can tell, we've heard squadoosh about FCDII for quite a while now. However, its pretty clear that the relationship between FCD and OKC has turned for the worse. They have a bunch of youngsters that need playing time, and they're not sending them to OKC. I can't remember the last time OKC played an FCD loanee. They actually signed Carlos Avilez to a USL contract with OKC, and he's playing for FCD U19s in the academy instead. I think we can all agree that FCD's strategy with their USLPro or reserves needs to change dramatically for 2018. I don't know if Hunt wants to spend the money on that, though. When he talks money, he typically mentions the amount of money they're spending on the Hall of Fame and accompanying stadium renovation.
Haven’t been following DC United nearly as closely since I got back into coaching youth soccer myself. I spend my time coaching my own players now and less time observing others. Also I don’t get nearly as excited about their youth prospects after watching Jorge Calix. He was amazing playing up as a 14 to 15-year-old with the u18s, but then they didn’t have anywhere for him to go. He started stagnating and by the time he went to the university of Maryland he wasn’t really anything special at that point. Short answer - no, I haven’t been watching DC United’s academy lately.
NCFC continued its trolling of DC United, announcing the signing of '99 Nelson Blanco, who is called an El Salvador native but is listed as American by the USSDA.

Andrew Lombard, who missed much of the season with injury, finally made his NYRB II debut tonight. He left the game late in the first half with an injury.
Roberto Hategan '01 made his debut in Sacramento's final game, coming on in the 89th minute. Probably more of a symbolic gesture at the end of the season than a sign he's near first team minutes, but who knows. He has three goals in seven U19 games so far this season in the DA, where his profile calls him Nicholas Hategan. http://sacr.ussoccerda.com/sam/teams/index.php?team=1401566&player=44712917
I haven't checked my numbers, so it's possible I made a mistake somewhere along the way, but here are the final regular season minutes for YNT eligible players in the USL. The NASL regular season still has another couple of weeks. 52,882 USL minutes went to YNT eligible players born in 1997 or later in 2017. That's up from 28,500 USL minutes to players born in 1996 or later in 2016. Exactly 96 YNT eligible players appeared in 2017, while 69 similarly aged players (96-later) appeared in 2016. Here's some coverage of (possible) USL El Paso. http://www.elpasotimes.com/story/ne...hihuahuas-seek-soccer-team-stadium/755769001/ Would be interesting to see whether the El Paso/Las Cruces area, which sends a pretty steady stream of young players to Mexico and elsewhere, could be a beneficiary of its talent base. UTEP and NMSU do not offer D1 soccer; UNM and ENMSU are pretty far from town. Of course, there is also a team across the border right now.
More Texas news: A new Multi-Purpose Event Venue (MPEV) in Amarillo is being designed both for a Double-A Texas League Minor League Baseball team and USL soccer, fulfilling the vision put to voters several years ago for the downtown facility. https://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2017/08/amarillo-as-a-future-usl-market/ I like MPEVs as much as the next guy, but if we're being honest I'm also a big fan of UAVs.
Also, now that there's all kinds of discussion of MLS Columbus moving to Austin -- that's one more city in play in various ways. (They had a USL team, then it took a year off, then ... who knows, now.) The pro soccer situation in Texas feels very much in play between MLS and lower-division teams.
