is a right winger, but apparently the coach prefers that he plays like a RB

'01 DM Cole Turner gets on late for Bethlehem. Also, sounds like Freese is having a good game in goal.

Big '01 Shanyder Borgelin, US-born-and-raised but representing Haiti YNTs, also gets on. I believe he's a 6-foot-3 center forward.

Edit: and now de Vries gets on. He's in the U17 pool and also apparently has access to a Belgian passport.

Yawn. That's pretty standard USL-type stuff.

Matt may never be a USMNT player, but he could have a long MLS career.
He could be a Victor Ulloa type............................

Colorado Springs had a couple of Rapids academy amateurs in their 18 last weekend:

    - GK Abraham Rodriguez '02
    - MF Logan Hitzeman '01

Hitzeman was a late sub in the opener. I'm curious how long and how extensive the engagement between CS and Rapids academy kids will be.

Josh Penn was very good for Indy Eleven. He played as the LWB and was a menace attacking-wise. Didn't pay enough attention to his defensive contributions but I really liked what I saw. He's on some kind of contract that keeps his eligibility for college still but I think he's good enough for a pro contract. Someone said he has his eyes overseas too.

Ochoa was arguably MOTM for Real Monarchs - his defense put him in a lot of tough positions but he made some good saves.

I was disappointed not to see Julian Vasquez or Luis Arriaga in the 18, especially after the preseason Vasquez had.

A few names I don't think have been mentioned yet.

Former UCI midfielder, '97 Daniel Crisostomo, made his USL debut in a start for Orange County last Saturday. Might be an AM.

'97 attacker Isidro Martinez also made his debut, for RGV Toros by starting against Tacoma. He was born in Brownsville and played four years for the UTRGV Vaqueros, so truly a local guy. '97 Andrew Samuels also made his starting debut, apparently as a RB. Another RGV debutante, Brad Dunwell, was born on December 31, 1996 and is just a day too old for being eligible. Wilmer Cabrera Jr. and Robert Castellanos also started. Brandon Morales was on the bench.

It's honestly difficult to keep track of all the YNT-eligible players in the USL. I've never felt that way before.

I count 55 YNT guys on USL Championship contracts and then another 19 in League One. Then add in all the YNT players on loan from MLS clubs and all the unsigned academy kids.

Way to rub it in, LAFC.

Batista is already in Phoenix, so that's five LAFC players on loan there. LAFC did loan a few players to Phoenix in 2018 and it seems the relationship has deepened.

LAFC called Brewer a defender in the release; it does seem like his future is RB or bust.

It's crazy how USL has become such an important part of the development ladder for elite talent.

I watched a lot of Conway in-person and on TV for ATL 2 last year and I never liked what I saw. Not sure if he'll ever play in MLS. He's only 17 though and progress/growth can happen out of no where. So far, 0 goals and 0 assists in his career.

Yeah it's interesting he starts over Okonkwo, who played a decent amount for the Battery last year and was at least more proficient that Conway was/is.

He must be the type of player who scores many goals in the academy when he faces much weaker teams, but then you realize he has nothing special.
