Do we know anything about Blayne Martinez? I thought he was good last weekend, and it seems like he scored the winning goal against Cal. He's a redshirt freshman, so he's probably either a '96 or '97.
Christian Enriquez, who has been called up by Friedel a couple of times, and plays for Cal Poly scored a hell of a goal tonight against UC Santa Barbara, a nice long range blast. Lamar Batista started at CB for UCSB. You can watch the second half here. http://www.bigwest.org/story.asp?story_id=16288
TDS Updated Top 100 list came out yesterday. http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads...avors-of-the-week-2016-edition.2034884/page-4 Lindley, McCabe, Pineda were 1,2,3 among FR.
Minor shake-up through Oct. 17 matches: U20-eligible Benji Michel of Portland, Whelan and Loyola-Md.'s Bryan Saramago (a younger freshman as a '98) all have 8 goals. Epps has 7.
Through Oct. 23 games, Whelan is now alone in the lead for YNT-eligible NCAA freshman goals with 10. Bucknell '98 Nick King is the YNT-eligible NCAA freshman assist leader wth 7. http://www.bucknellbison.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=32100&ATCLID=211141005 (Yes, I understand these are just stats. Posting because why not?)
Through Oct. 30 games, Michel and Whelan are tied for the NCAA D1 "Eligible for This Thread" goals lead. Both have 10. I'm not 100% sure of his birthdate, but I believe the EFTT assists lead is a dead heat between Siena's Conor McGlynn ... and UCLA's Jack Yuiell, both with 8. Luka Prpa is 16th in the nation in PPG, which translates to 9 goals and 6 assists in 15 games.
Tanner Dieterich hasn't been a consistent start over the last 1/3 of the season. Still getting a lot of minutes, but was playing 90 every game to start the campaign. He played well, so not sure of the reason. I heard the had some match-ups where they wanted more speed in central defense. Whatever the reason the D has had 8 of 10 shutouts, so the shuffling and subbing has worked. Clemson's offense is putrid, so they games are pretty terrible about every game recently is 0-0 or 1-0.
The conference awards are starting to roll in. For the purposes of this thread…. Maryland Soph. MF Amar Sejdic, who has been called up by Ramos this cycle, was named to the All Big Ten first team. Michigan State Soph. F Ryan Sierakowski, a 97 who got U18 NT looks, also made the first team. Maryland MF Eryk Williamson, a regular Tab call-up, made the Big Ten second team. (Abdi Mohammed, a soph. from Ohio State, who was second team BT may be worth checking on. He was born in Kenya and I can’t find if he is young enough for the 20s or a US citizen.) Michigan State MF Giuseppe Barone, a 98, was named the freshman of the year in the Big Ten. Maryland D Donovan Pines, who has been called up by Ramos/Friedel, made the Big Ten all freshman team. MSU’s Michael Pimlott and Michael Wetungu, Northwestern MF Mattias Tomasino, Ohio State GK Parker Siegfried, Penn State’s Pierre Reedy, Tim McQuaid of Rutgers and Elan Koenig of Wisconsin are all American 97/98s who made the all freshman team. Several got USYNT looks in HS. Elsewhere, UC Davis Sophomore Kristian Heptner was the lone American Soph. or Fr. To make the All Big West 1st or 2nd team. Cal Poly M Christian Enriquez, who has gotten a U20 look this summer, was named the Big West freshman of the year. Lamar Bautista, the UCSB D/DM I wrote about earlier, made the Big West all freshman team. He was joined by Rei Dorwart of Fullerton, Mac Harrington (dual citizen who has played for Canada’s U20s) and Christian Webb of Sacramento State, Kenny Higgins of Cal Poly, Jose Ortiz of UC Irvine, Edwin Quiroz of Northridge and Eduardo Sanchez of UC Riverside are age-eligible Americans who made the BW all freshman team.
Excellent post, but this is incorrect on both counts -- he's a '96, though he does have past YNT involvement.
The oft-discussed here Luke Prpa of Marquette was named Big East Conference Freshman of the Year. Shane Bradley of Villanova made the Big East 2nd team and all-freshman team. Other age-and-US-eligible players on the BE all freshman team include Georgetown’s Dylan Nealis, Danny Griffin of Providence and Jonathan Jimenez of Seton Hall.
ACC All-conference awards who are relevant to this thread. FIRST TEAM Cam Lindley, Fr., M, North Carolina (ACC Freshman of the Year) Miles Robinson, So., D, Syracuse (ACC Defensive Player of the Year) ALL FRESHMAN TEAM who are age and citizenship eligible for the U20 team. Tanner Dieterich, Fr., D, Clemson Suniel Veerakone, Fr., M, Duke Mauricio Pineda, Fr., M, North Carolina Tommy McCabe, Fr., M, Notre Dame Terrell Lowe, Fr., M, Virginia Lindley, Robinson, Dieterich, Pineda and Lowe have all been called up by Ramos/Friedel this cycle. McCabe, as we've discussed, was on the U17 WC team last cycle but hasn’t been called in yet. Veerakone hasn’t been called up before.
Here are links to the American Athletic and Conference USA all con teams. http://theamerican.org/index.aspx?path=msoc& http://conferenceusa.com/news/2016/11/8/MSOC_1108163737.aspx There are some age-eligible US players on those lists but after yesterday, I don't currently have the energy to go through them.
Matt Constant on the CUSA all-freshman team is one that jumps out. He's a former YNT pool player who accepted a Canada U20 callup.

UCLA Soph. MF Jackson Yueill made the All Pac-12 first team while San Diego State R-Fr. MF Pablo Pelaez made the second team. For the second straight year, the conference's freshman of the year was a product of American HS and an MLS academy but not a US citizen. Last year it was UCLA's Jose Hernandez, born in Mexico before playing for RSL's academy. This year it was Washington's Kenya-born Seattle Sounders product Handwalla Bwana. Here's hoping both get US citizenship before too long.
That's a very young college freshman! Also it looks like he was expected at D3 Norwich, but for whatever reason decided to switch before classes started.
Also -- maybe just my gut sense, but this thread seems VERY quiet as the season draws to a close. My read on this is that this forum's participants, by and large, don't watch a lot of college soccer. (My consumption of it certainly went down this fall due to things like, you know, having a kid and stuff.) Or are you all watching matches and just keeping your scouting reports to yourselves?
There's so much soccer on tv these days that my viewing of it has decreased precipitously. Also, the horrific UVA verses UCLA championship match from a few years ago still leaves a putrid taste in my mouth. Unwatchable.
I watch the occasional match. I watched Clemson-Syracuse a few weeks ago. A few weeks before that I watched UCLA. I'm going to try to watch UCLA play again tomorrow. I want to see Silva, Yueill and Cannon play again.
I initially watched an early season game to see all the UNC prospects and was pissed and horrified how terrible they were being taught by Somoano. Then didn't watch alot except of my SU Orange who plays the game so-so. I then came across alot of Pac12 games on cable and love how most of them at least know how to play and fell in love (figuratively) with the way Cal-UCLA played their 4-3 game in Oct. I then saw Md, Wisc., UM, most of the ACC games and were encouraged. Hope they switch to the long season and reduce subs.
I think that college soccer talk was always driven mostly by a small group of posters, some of whom don't seem to be as active on BigSoccer anymore. At least @Sandon Mibut now appears to be back....and back bigly!
