Skryzybski is hurt for Schalke and might not play this weekend. We could see major minutes for Wright. Amazing how everyone in front of him is hurt. These are the breaks you need.
With Embolo and Uth out for another few weeks and Burgstaller and Skryzbski questionable, Wright and Di Santo (who were both transfer-listed at the beginning of this season) have chances to impress. Let's hope Haji bangs one in!
US U20 right back Sergio Dest's goal in the Dutch second division yesterday for Jong Ajax. A young prospect to keep an eye on. A reminder that we have an in-his-prime right back of some distinction right now...………….. Shoutout to @stighefootball ranking DeAndre Yedlin as the 7th best RB in the Premier League. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/4JLbqyEVut— Arthur Kogan (@artur_kogan) December 1, 2018
Haji Wright is STARTING for Schalke today against Hoffenheim. What an opportunity for him. Future USMNT added,
Tedesco is calling out Franco Di Santo here. Doesn't name him directly, but its clear he's talking about him. He's Wright's competition right now to get minutes, but Di Santo has been so bad this season that he has been left out of the 18, despite being the only fit striker besides Wright. Even for when their other strikers return (Burgstaller, Uth, Embolo, Skrzybski), moving ahead of Di Santo in the pecking order could see him get some minutes due to Schalke playing three competitions. Tedesco über Haji Wright: "In Porto waren wir mit der Gesamtleistung nicht zufrieden, besonders von ein, zwei Leuten. Wir haben richtig Bock auf den Jungen." #TSGS04 #S04— Andreas Ernst (@AndiErnst) December 1, 2018
Di Santo started the midweek loss 1-3 v Porto which is why he was unavailable today. Unfortunately Haji did not do himself any favors today with a lackluster, low-energy performance. He looked lost out there, did not seem interested in getting the ball and his teammates did not seem particularly interested in trying to get it to him. He will have to change his mentality and become more aggressive and energetic if he is going to be successful at Schalke. He needs to take some cues from Weston!
Starting the last game does not make you unavailable for today's game. Plenty of other players were available that started in that game. There were no strikers on the bench. This is not about rotation. Schalke fans keep mentioning how Di Santo adds nothing on a regular basis.
Shaq Moore's club in real crisis: Spanish Segunda side Reus, home of USMNT DF Shaq Moore (on-loan from Levante), with more financial issues. Players unpaid in 3 months. Monday the deadline for club to pay salaries. Could lose 12 players and be relegated to Seg B: https://t.co/7iuPy8KJep— Arch Bell (@ArchBell) December 5, 2018
He played only 4 games during the Hex. The team were 2-1-1 with him in there. He made no mistakes leading to goals. The goals against in the Mexico and T&T match did not come from his side.
Maybe it's unfair, but I expect some modicum, tiny bit of contribution to the offense from fullbacks. Seems like that's the way in the modern game. Locking down your side is good. But, I expect that a fullback should be able to handle their defensive duties and contribute something, anything to the offense. How many dangerous balls has Yedlin put in for us in the last 2 years? Two? One? Imo, there are fullbacks in the pool who can defend as well as Yedlin, if they played as passively as Yedlin.
Kind of off topic, but I would guess that Shaq is getting paid, since he's there on loan. If Reus gets relegated, it would surprise me if it's in the middle of the season. In short, it sucks, but I don't think Shaq will be too much affected by this.
He has 7 career assists, but only 1 since the start of '16. 3G's system emphasizes attacking fullback, so Yedlin will have to pick it up a bit.
Siebatcheu finally gets his first league goal for Rennes, against Lyon. The previous manager got the sack and he's starting the first Ligue 1 match under new management. https://streamable.com/11agj
Checked the other fullbacks. None had impressive numbers, really. But production from the fullback spot should improve under 3G.
I wonder if Tata had more goals/assists from fullbacks than any other mls manager. Not sure where one would find that. Hwvr, I think the wb's have to contribute more offensively to make a 3cb system work. Chandler is the best of the bunch in Europe when it comes to the offensive game. He just doesn't defend very well. Berhalter's fb's are not as active as Tata's. It will be intresting to watch when we play Mexico.
He had more assists than Bradley in 6 fewer games... I think in the EPL with Newcastle, he plays a very defined role. He is also not the highest paid player or expected to be one of the best. I think with the USA, for his career, he hasn't played in a detailed system. I think recently, being one of the few players playing at a high level, he has felt pressure to do things he wouldn't try in Newcastle. Everyone should get a clean slate and Yedlin should have the first crack at RB. The options aren't that great really. We nit pick Yedlin for not being as good as we want and then turn to who? Cannon? He is a young player who was lucky not to get sent off in the last friendly.
