Wiki says Hopp owns property in Naples, FL. Just a 2 hour drive (even less by Hopp-a-copter) to Miami. He's buying the Union and shipping them to Miami. not sure if I needed to put that in red.
Must be nice to have FU money like Hopp, you have more leeway to blow off important meetings to buy a soccer club on a whim than the average Joe.
Maybe they were discussing the Union becoming Hoffenheim's minor league affiliate (like NYCFC and Manchester City but with a much smaller budget) so Hoffenheim could park their developing players who aren't quite ready for the Bundesliga in Philly for seasoning. #strategicpartnership Maybe they talked about making SAP the jersey sponsor after the deal with Bimbo expires (would they hand out software packages after games instead of bread?) Or maybe Sugarman just wants to how he gets away with showing up to games in a helicopter while running his team on a shoestring budget without catching sh!t from his fans. Idle speculation is fun!
Yeah, they take potential partners to Union games to drive home the dangers of poor business management and poor customer relations.
If you've ever interacted with an SAP implementation, the unintentional comedy of this will make you cry.
I can’t imagine Dietmar Hopp taking a meeting to discuss friendlies, Union youth academy, shirt sponsorship with Jay Sugarman. Maybe his son? And it only makes sense if they’re acquiring, to invest capital in a group who obviously doesn’t know how to run a soccer team doesn’t fit. Imagine Mark Cuban meeting with Sugarman to discuss becoming a minority shareholder. If Sugarman sells, I buy tickets that day.
Sugarman doubling down on the current strategy. Expect more mediocrity for the unforeseen future. http://www.philly.com/philly/sports...ey-earnie-stewart-youth-academy-20171124.html
And a whopping 4 million dollars on the academy! Give me a ********ing break.. I wish they’d stop rolling this out like we should be impressed.

This quote by Jay is not innocuous to me, but rather further evidence that he does not get it as an owner, does not understand what is necessary to be a good sports team owner ambitious for winning. Is he suggesting that they do not need talent and quality at every position to win? If so, that type of attitude is exactly what has the Union in the non-contender status every year. Why not at least tell the public you know you need talent at EVERY position? Even if you cannot fulfill the statement, at least try to say the right thing!
