Need to include Kyle Nakazawa since his name is fun to say.... also union CB great Juan Diego Gonzalez.
I believe OPTA had a (very ambiguous) stat called "Quality chances created" that Freddy was always at the top of for the Union. For the life of me I can't imagine what that stat actually entailed.
Man...Al Money must being feeling slighted to not be the first inductee Soooo....SKC extended Vermes' contract through 2023. I know @UnionDues and I have no love for the Sporks. That said, what he says about SKC and their owners commitment to being competitive in MLS, while doing things differently (i.e. not spending millions of dollars on DP's) makes me jealous. Not going to lie. So, Mr. Sugarman, here is the blueprint you SHOULD be following. https://www.sportingkc.com/post/201...fter-signing-contract-extension?autoplay=true
I've always said that I don't need us to be Atlanta or Toronto, I would be very happy being Portland or SKC
SKC is exactly what the Union SAY they want to be. Unfortunately they don't know how to get there. Imagine if Nick Sak had just done a national search for a Head Coach back in 2008/2009 instead of putting all of eggs in the Nowak basket......maybe he could have convinced Vermes to come home and build a team from scratch..........
A microcosm of the difference between SKC and the Union is that KC let go of one of their perennial backups and the Union made him their perennial starter. SKC is far more shrewd in acquiring both domestic and foreign players who do not bust the budget, all-the-while possessing the necessary level of play to compete very well in the league. Oh, and coaching, too.
My point is the difference between us and SKC is definitely not money. You can be respectable in this league without money, the issue is (same as it was when Nick Sak was at the helm) who's running the team top to bottom. We aren't only poor when it comes to money, we're poor in coaching, poor in development, poor in tactics, and poor in player acquisition
I was born in KC (haven;t lived there since the 80s) but I live in PA now. Alas...I could be watching decent MLS footy, but I chose to support the Union. #hindsight
So Sugarman wanted to be at Le Toux's retirement presser, but had a scheduling conflict. The ONLY way this is even remotely acceptable is if he was meeting with someone who is offering to buy him out. The optics of the majority owner being absent from this moment is piss poor.
Say what you will about them, but owners with track records of success like Jeff Lurie, the Rooney family, Bob Kraft, George Steinbrenner, etc. wouldn't miss an event like because it allows them to associate themselves with a beloved team icon in the eyes of fans. I hate the Cowboys, but could you imagine Troy Aikman being inducted into their ring of honor WITHOUT Jerry Jones showing his face and saying a few words?
Hoppenot deserves to be honored for "Worst Use of Social media" when he called out the fans. That next home game is one of my best memories of a Union game: calling him out in front of his teammates and watching while he explained why I was so irate.
As bad as attendance has been it seems like it should be, "Buy one - bring as many people as you can talk into watching bad soccer as you can. Please, bring as many people as you can."
