They appear to have corrected this. I’m now able to watch live and on demand on the Telemundo deportes app (with DirecTV authentication). When Homie posted this, I had the same problem that he describes here.
Anybody using Fubo or Sling for the WC, how is the DVR function in terms of doing a quick live replay, pause or rewind ? Does that depend on the streaming device itself (roku, fire TV) ?
On a laptop (Macbook), Safari, business ISP via WiFi. Haven't tried mobile app or slower connections.
I'm trying to keep my WC watching hours under control. So in the last 2 days I went hunting for a show that provides non-spoiler highlights of each day's action. I only found one show on FOX called, aptly enough, "FIFA World Cup Highlights", which seems to be 80% actual footy highlights (great!), but its broadcast/schedule is seriously flawed. (NOTE: The other daily wrap-up shows I found "FIFA World Cup Tonight" & "FIFA World Cup Matchday" but they are 90% inane banter by Fiore, Lalas et al, plus they hit you on the head with spoilers... not for me!) "FIFA World Cup Highlights" seems to be a UK-produced show, much the way the UCL/UEL Highlights shows have been, which is great! But it seems to lack a scoreboard graphic which is inexplicable. This show is also mainly on FS2, which means FOR ME it's in SD, but I guess I can live with that. And last but not least, it doesn't air early enough or consistently enough... e.g. it's on tonight Friday 9pm (great!) but then Saturday not until 1:30am (Sunday), and Sunday not until 1:00am (Monday), etc. So, although the format of this highlights show could just about work for me (even in SD and without a scoreboard graphic???) the schedule SUCKS. So I'm wondering if there's something else ON TV that I should turn to instead? Telemundo?? But I don't speak Spanish so unless they do SAP English, that would be tough.
I don't watch the highlights shows as I'm watching the matches live but it may be worth checking out beIN-1 at 7pm ET every night as they have a 1-hour World Cup show. Also, ESPN FC (not sure of times and I think it moved to ESPN+). Fifa.com provides a 2-minute highlight video of each match but I'm sure there are videos on Youtube have have the 5-7 minute extended highlights for each game (just have to find the HD ones). Just a few suggestions... SA www.soccertvblog.com
Not using the internet is a real handicap here I kid, I kid. Good luck. ITV highlights show at 10:45pm UK / 5:45 ET is handy for experienced VPN streamers. I think ITV and BBC alternate nights for highlights.
Thanks but those shows tend to just show very limited highlights, like 1-2 mins of each match, mostly of goals. So it sounds like the FS2 "highlights" show is the best longer-format show I'm gonna find on TV... I guess Telemundo doesn't have anything good. And yes, I don't do VPN for TV, plus I heard that BBC is somehow cracking down on VPN access... is that possible and true?
Yeah it’s been tougher for me to get audio to work on my phone, running normally reliable TunnelBear. I haven’t tried MOTD or ITV highlights on my Surface yet with other VPNs but I’ll let the group know how I fare.
I'm watching the ITV extended highlights show (one hour) on their on-demand site now and it's great. No spoilers, classic British set-up, using their own commentators, gets straight into the action, similar to Match of the Day. https://www.itv.com/hub/world-cup-highlights/2a5878 Using Touch VPN on a Surface PC. Had to set-up an account with ITV which requires a British postcode. No problem for me. BBC does the same now. Highlights program also has some news and other commentary. You'll get an England slant in there for sure. There's also a World Cup Daily quick report with goals and updates. 10 mins. Again no results before the conclusion of highlights. https://www.itv.com/hub/world-cup-daily/2a5797a0002
I have to say people complained about ESPN and to a lesser extent Univision losing the rights. (Heck, I myself was skeptical about both FOX and Telemundo.) There have been some hiccups and negatives but I have to say that digitally for me the experience has been much better. Telemundo is better than Univision because they have OnDemand matches to stream which is great. And I can access it from wither the Telemundo app or NBC Sports. FOX is better than ESPN in the sense that I can start watching the match from the beginning even if the game is still on. That is a huge positive. With WatchESPN/ ESPN3 I would have to wait until the game was over to stream from the start. This World Cup is so much better on Digital platforms.
For those of us few who have Dish... ...and for those of us fewer who have their dishes pointed towards the satellite that has international packages:... I just noticed last night that Dish is providing the Fox Sports team feed camera angles and they are also providing the French Language feed free of charge. The Team feeds are available on channels 798/791. The French Language feeds Channel 608-09, 608-10 (Keep in mind your Dish has to be directed towards the Satellite that carries these channels. I used to have the Brazilian package for soccer.)
I don't understand a lot of spanish, but I gave Telemundo chance for a half of the POR-SPA game. I didn't understand a lot except that they have their own Dr. Joe along with Cantor badly mixing up Silvas, so I am back with Fox.
What the hell just happened on Telemundo?! (In between show leading up to Germany-Mexico). Some guy came on the set unannounced and had to be escorted off by secuirty but one of the announcers was protecting the guy.
John Strong not wasting any time showing his lack of knowledge, stating that today's match is Brazil's first in the World Cup since the 7-1 loss to Germany, which it isn't - they lost 3-0 to the Netherlands in the third place game in 2014.
Yeah, just not good enough as most of us expected. Adrian Healey is good and Jorge Perez-Navarro/Mariano Trujillo was surprisingly good for me. Studio and most of the other stuff is just not close to the level ESPN set and straight up unwatchable for me.(I wish I wasn't this way!) I've been able to get BBC going, but not ITV in a good enough quality.
Derek Rae not Healey. Glad that you like Perez-Navarro and Trujillo. Jorge has been doing World Cups for a long time now (this is his first one in English). I don't know how ESPN was that much better though.
Really trying to give FS1 a chance for England-Tunisia but don't think I'm going to make it through Aly Wagner's pronunciations of Dele Alli
Yeah she got the accent wrong most of the time, more like Muhammad Ali. I think once or twice she actually said it right. BUT I don't really hold that against her too much. I thought she was substantially more insightful and game-smart than Tony Meola was the last time he was on (Mex-Ger?). +1 for Ally in general. But Alli on the other hand...
