Ya know, I thought Russia might have some trouble getting out of this group. Phew were my concerns assuaged.

 

Except, we did--kinda. The guy reffing the Portugal-Morocco game is Mark Geiger of MLS/US Pro refs....

 

Wow! I completely missed all of that. I’m definitely planning on listening to that podcast.

 

Sounds like Portugal v Morocco was boring with a lone goal scored in the 4th minute.

 

Morocco was the better team.

No doubt. I certainly understand the game enough to know that possession, chances created, passing %, other advanced metrics, etc. don't mean squat if the shots don't go in and the team's on the low end of those metrics do.

But, as a casual observer, I enjoyed the play from Morocco. They showed more skill, endeavor and teamwork in both attack and defense. They were more enjoyable to watch.

However, I don't think they "deserved" to win by any stretch. They weren't robbed, jobbed by the ref, etc.

 

Whoever they have announcing this Australia/Denmark game sucks. Captain anecdote. Just stfu and call the game.

 

Interesting situation from the Portugal-Morocco game. Geiger is alleged (by a Moroccan player) to have requested a jersey from Pepe at halftime (original reports were Ronaldo).
