Putting aside people's feelings on the actual rankings, I thought I'd share my analysis of draw based on them. If this is elsewhere out on the web post a link so I don't have to do this next time! Background: I used the FIFA November 2013 rankings and mapped them against the qualified teams. (Yes, I used November as they are more recent even though October was use Analysis by Group: Group G (GER, POR, USA, GHA) has the lowest average ranking of teams (11). Group H (BEL, ALG, RUS KOR) is the weakest group (28.3 average ranking) Analysis by Qualifying Region: AFC is the weakest region and faces the toughest opponents by rank. CONMEBOL and UEFA are the highest ranked Regions and have the easiest ranked opponents. (I think this makes sense based on Regions being separated and, for example, AFC not being able to play other AFC teams.) Analysis by Team: Ghana, Australia, Costa Rica, and USA have the 4 hardest schedules based on FIFA rankings of their 3 respective opponents. Belgium and Argentina have the easiest schedules (34 average rank of 3 opponents) Analysis by Seeded Teams: Germany has the toughest group among seeded teams (ave rank of 3 opponents is 14.3) compared against Belgium and Argentina who face an average rank in its opp of 34.
