Both Japan and Australia have never played in Amman before. They had to travel a lot and in that case home advantage means a lot.

However, teams like Oman and Iraq are used to the atmosphere, and are familiar with Arab teams. That's why we didn't struggle over there.

Maybe it will affect the South American team more.. ( I highly doubt it but still)

Hee hee... well actually I do wish Jordan luck and if they can beat South America's 5th placed team (well, 6th if you include Brazil :)' ) then I gotta say they definitely deserve.. and hey, you can't count out a country named after Michael Jordan can you?

Amazing accomplishment just to reach this stage. There's no way Jordan gets anything out of either game.

Jordan set for date with destiny against Uruguay

More than two years after taking their first step down the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™,Jordan's long and valiant qualifying campaign is about to reach its climax. The final stride will undoubtedly be the most difficult too, with the Asian hopefuls due to face Uruguay in the intercontinental play-off. Fourth at South Africa 2010 and two-time former winners, the South American side[IMG] look to be a formidable obstacle, meaning Jordan will need to surpass themselves from the very first whistle of Wednesday's opening leg.

    The schedule[IMG]
    Wednesday 13 November
    Jordan-Uruguay (Amman, International Stadium, 18.00)

    The match
Nobody in Jordan expected their national side[IMG] to reach even this far. Never before have Al-Nashamastood so close[IMG] to their World Cup dream, and they could even have qualified automatically had they not dropped so many costly points after historic wins against Japan and Australia.

Ultimately they were left facing a play-off with Uzbekistan, and after coming out on top of an epic penalty shoot-out, they remain in the hunt[IMG] for a coveted ticket to Brazil. Clinching their place among the elite will be no easy task, though, and it will be a case of winner takes all when they tackleUruguay for the first time over two legs.

Their South American rivals boast a rich history and a line-up brimming with gifted players, but Jordanhave their hearts set on making a positive start[IMG] on home soil, anxious to keep their hopes alive for next Wednesday's decider.

As for La Celeste, they have no intention of missing out on a World Cup in neighbouring Brazil, where they clinched the second of their global titles in 1950. Oscar Tabarez's charges nonetheless struggled to impress during the group stage in South America, desperately toiling to break into the top four only to find themselves in fifth once the dust had settled. That has left them facing a trip into the unknown, but Uruguay will be determined to make their individual and collective qualities count to seal qualification at all costs.

    The stat
4 –This is the fourth time Uruguay have contested the play-offs. La Celeste prevailed against Australia in 2002 and Costa Rica in 2010 but lost out to the Socceroos in 2006. Ahead of the finals in Germany, the two teams traded 1-0 home wins in Montevideo and Sydney before Uruguay finished second best on penalties.

    Players to watch
Many eyes will be focused on Uruguay's strike partnership of Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez, and the Liverpool striker will surely merit special attention from Jordan's defence. Suarez topped the scoring charts during South American qualifying thanks to a tally of 11 goals that not even Lionel Messi could match, and since serving his suspension in the Premier League he has been in devastating form, finding the net eight times in six outings for the Reds this term.

Jordan have talent in their ranks too, even if the gulf between the two teams may appear immense. Above all, fans across the country will be hoping for big things from forward Ahmad Ibrahim, the second highest scorer in Asian qualifying courtesy of seven strikes in 18 games.

They said"The match is of very important for this generation of players; this is first time Jordan has been soclose[IMG] to qualifying. We should have the courage and self-confidence to achieve our goal," Hossam Hassan, Jordan coach[IMG].

Its a shame because it has been a pretty even match, but Uruguay took advantage of the chances.
Jordan has no choice but to risk it second half, and go all out offensive.

Jordan have stepped it up a bit in this half and missed a glaring chance to make it 2-1, but the guy missed an open goal. They also had what looked to be a legitimate penalty denied and a yellow card for diving instead.

Off topic a bit but I've always wondered if FIFA has considered instead of having 2 sets of playoffs, having a little round-robin "mini-WC" qualifying group involving all 4 intercontinental playoff teams. Mexico, Uruguay, New Zealand and Jordan could meet for a week and play each other once in Brazil (or the world cup host nation).

You could have a schedule like:

    Mexico vs. New Zealand (Weds)
    Jordan vs. Uruguay (Weds)
    NZ vs. Jordan (Sat)
    Uruguay vs. Mexico (Sat)
    NZ vs. Uruguay (Weds)
    Mexico vs. Jordan (Weds.)

The international break is one week long anyway, so wouldn't any extra days, would just require one more game but would cut out the travel time. Anyhoo...What do you guys think?

There's too much difference. Specially mental difference. Uruguay playres know they are better and don't care about the result in Jordan, and by that they have an upper advantage even in Jordan.
Maybe 4x0 is too much, but I already knew Jordan would lose both games (or at least draw at home).

Are you really from Turkmenistan? Don't know too many Turkmen on here.. but that's one country that's definitely on my bucket list of places to go.. anyhoo, back on topic... yeah this is a bit of a roasting... jordan have actually had quite a bit of the midfield play but it's in the final third where they are just getting slaughtered.. would like to see Jordan get a goal though, at least just for the fans...

No, I'm Brazilian with Turkmen and Lebanese heritage. =p

Like, it's difficult to measure how could the game would end if Jordan scored when it was 2x0...Uruguay knew that even losing or drawing in Amman they would have an upper advantage in Montevideo. After they scored their 1st goal, it was logical they would settle the game slowly.

Although I think Uzbekistan would do better, when I saw that Uruguay got the 5th spot in CONMEBOL, it was almost a no-way. If was Venezuela, Jordan would have some chances. But Uruguay is just too much.

If Uruguay play in a serious mode here in South America I would expect a 6/7/8 x 0. No joking. If even Argentina or Brazil shake theirselves when playing at Centenario, I can imagine how Jordan players will do...

Beating a South American national team in South America... closest thing in football to "mission: impossible."
